I had a domain renewal get by me, yeah me bad. Anyway, I don't want this domain but it's been automatically renewed by Go Daddy for two years. Is their a grace period where I can cancel this renewal?
I'm checking with GD but thought I would check here. This isn't domain tasting since I've had this domain for two years. I just want it canceled now.
once when I accidentally renewed (manually) some domains that I didn't want together with some that I did , I called my account exec and cancelled the ones I did not want
but I don't remember if I had renewed them before their expiration date or after their expdate
or whether my request to cancel was before their expdate or after their expdate
just call GoDaddy and ask
ADDED:
though since Kath says there is no grace period for renewals , she probably has had the same issue or has read something about it
That is not true. I have returned numerous accidentaly renewed domains. When my first batch of renewals came up, I was unprepared and my Godaddy account Rep fixed everything for me. They allow it, but prefer you not have to cancel any renewaled names, so I try very hard to catch everything in time now.
I think that the period in which you can return a name that was renewed in error is 30 days (don't quote me on that).
I just heard back from GoDaddy. No problem. I just need to cancel the domain. Then request a refund. So you can cancel payment for domain that renewed and you change your mind or didn't want to renew it.
Go Daddy didn't specify a time frame. I'm within two days now. So I would think 5-30 days makes sense.
So for .com/.net etc there is a 5-day grace period for new registrations,
for renewals I think it's a 45-day refund period,
that's why registrars will often renew the expired names with the registry on behalf of clients, send them to auction and eventually drop them if there no bids so they get a refund from the registry.
Now not all registrars extend the facility to their customers.
