I have often read people's opinions that a .com of a certain term is worth 10-20 times the value of the same term in .net. (house.com vs house.net, for example)

Do you have an opinion on the value relationship between the same term in english vs spanish, such as house.com vs casa.com, or beer.com vs cerveza.com? I've done some digging on comparables, but it's tough to find direct comparisons. There is an obvious need for a discount on the spanish names due to a) amount of traffic, and b) generally speaking, the purchasing power of the audience.

Any thoughts on what the discount should be?

Thats a really interesting question and often a language barrier causes problems when trying to do a determination. However, if we are talking about uber generics, like (Poker, Homes, Travel, ect).

I think your probably looking at 10-18% the value of the .com english equivalent. That is my guess, unfortunately its not based on any sales data that I can dig up at this time.

I personally think (nothing to back it up other than experience) Spade's estimate is on target if you consider it in relation to PPC payouts right now. I think however a higher premium is due if you are looking at long term growth.

I've purchased tons of Spanish and Portuguese domains targeting Latin America and Spain and Portugal, and some might find surprising, even the U.S. Many of these domains will have U.S. traffic b/c of the immigrants and migrants living here, whether permanent or temporary.

Previously I would say these domains were worth more, but since Google pays out little on Latin foreign and Yahoo just started to do the same (like .01 to .05 cents most of the time) values are likely to take a dip for some time due to very low payouts. The U.S. clicks on the Latin languages' traffic still pay out decent, but not great.

However, I would say that this is a good time to buy b/c there is still so much growth left to be had and many of the economies are getting stronger very quick. There are tons of Latinos still not Online, but I bet many of their kids will be soon.

Dont forget, The majority population in California is of hispanic descent. Meaing - pretty soon (if not already) there will be more spanish speakers than english.

For kicks, I plugged some terms off the top of my head into Estibot a few days ago to see what their mathematical formula spit out. The average value (straight-line avg, not weighted) for the spanish vs english came out at just under 10%, in the range of the post above.
