Future of NNNNN.coms

I don't know where are we heading with NNNNN.coms

I see many 5N.coms dropping everyday though they are being caught instantly.
I see many sellers selling 5N.coms for $10 each which have almost a year before they expire.

Could someone throw some light on it

Righto, that's why additional research is typically required IMHO.

i think NNNNN.coms will become quite valuable in a few years time. right now you can purchase them for less than reg fee and i suggest anyone who can hold for a few years pickup as many as you can.

Im not much a believer in NNNNN.com's for a few basic reasons.

1. Hard to Remember and Brand

2. Typically lack meaning, which normally makes a domain signifigant.

Consider this. I want to start a business around selling Mouse Pads online. How does having an NNNNN.com correlate to selling Mouse Pads? How would my customers remember it if I started to brand a random number like 59302.com (assuming of course its not a zip code).

I think these make poor investments unless they are zip codes or important numbers.

I think the important thing is development potential, end user sales, and prices of NNN.com's and NNNN.com's. The latter is doing very well, and so eventually NNNNN.com's will rise in price. With very strong end-user sales for NNN.com's an NNNN.com's, and sales for NNNNN.com's picking up, the baseline for a random NNNNN.com should rise. May take a little bit of time, but I think it will happen. Also, scarcity is a factor as well. There are only 100k NNNNN.com v. 450k+ LLLL.com, and the proportion of NNNNN.com's that are developed sites is very high, near 50%. So that's only about 50k for a reseller market. And not all the developed NNNNN.com's are US zip codes, some are foreign postal code sites, cell phone sites, random brandables (surprising number of these actually), and most importantly, Chinese sites, which I think is about 8% of all NNNNN.com's. The Chinese sites is probably one of the best areas for future growth, because traffic there is going to continue to rise rapidly as internet use expands. Also, as the price of other numerics rises, NNNNN.com's should rise as well. But it may take a year or so.

I have trouble forgetting phone numbers! I'll make one call and will normally remember the number seemingly forever. Assuming it was important to me in the first place..

Development of NNNNN.com's

To get a sense for the variety of development uses for NNNNN.com's, here is a sample:

Foreign postal code: 30900.com (real estate company for beach properties in an Israeli postal code). NNNNN.com's also represent postal codes in France, Italy, Kuwait, Sweden, Finland, Brazil, Spain, Czech Republic, and more...

US zip code (non-Marchex): 20910.com (local realtor in Silver Spring, MD).

US zip code (Marchex): 90210.com (Marchex owns about 35k-40k of these, plus all the NNNNN.net varieties).

Random Brandable: 48073.com (art portfolio site).

Product Related: 10061.com (Timberland uses this because it sells a popular boot with the number 10061). Also see 10015.com (Adequate.org uses this because of the ISO 10015 quality assurance standard)

Numbers representing letters spelled on Cell phone: 62623.com (OANBD.com for Open All Night Business Directory).
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=475999

Other mobile phone related: 89331.com (UK Mobile phone site).

Chinese site: 17173.com (#59 site in China currently in Alexa rankings, in top 1000 sites worldwide).

Other foreign site: 48300.com (Turkish site for computer-related forum).

NNNNN's will rise.

That doesn't mean they are all useful.

If you manage to get one, the best thing to do is either sell or hold based on what it might signify (e.g. zip code) or development potential.

Btw there will be domains like 31337 (leet speak), lol.
