The worst possible thing you can do is register your domain with your hosting company, for serious. As soon as the host goes so does your domain. Same with wanting to switch hosts, as soon as you try they'll show you a hidden clause in your contract and BAM you've lost your domain.

However, you can use .htaccess to block what they're doing, but it's extra effort :/
