Contacting potential end users and TM issues

As for the several domains I got, following the advices in other topics I would like to contact some companies whose name has the right initials or is exactly the same as my domains, and who may want to buy the domain. However, is there any way to check if the name is not TM-protected? The last thing I'd want is to lose the domain for free because a company I contact for an offer would claim the domain ...

Note: the domain was not claimed by anyone during the sunrise period, and the .com and .net variants are parked.

www.uspto.gov is a good start for US companies. Depending on where the company is located, you should also do additional research on the company that you are contacting. Just because a company does not have a registered trademark does not mean that they do not have rights to a trademark.

If you want to be cautious and ensure that the company in question does not own any Intellectual property on your name, or if you would like to find out if 'any' company does own the rights, you need to check with each countries Intellectual Property records.

For the company in question you should find out where they are registered and search that countries records.

Below are some links for you:

* International Trademarks (Madrid Protocol)
* US Trademarks
* Australian Trademarks
* United Kingdom Trademarks
* Japan Trademarks

Though if you had thousands of name and wanted to be serious in regards to protecting your domains, contact an trademark lawyer
