Tips for safe selling

Hey everyone.

I've been reading the threads on domain scams and wanted to put together a FAQ of sorts on how to safely buy and sell domain names.

I'd like to get your input on the things you do to ensure a safe transaction.

Thanks!

Sean

Escrow.com is a staple in this regard, especially for higher priced sales negotiated between domainers and End users, IMHO.

I'm interested also in how to determine that the buyer/seller is genuine and not a scammer.

I setup a quick site about this. I'd appreciate your feedback. Also please post your scams to the site so others can see who's scamming.

Nice site, although...

At this time the service that is safest for buyers is PayPal. PayPal has policies in place that strongly favor the buyer of a domain name. If possible you should use this service for buying your domain name.
I'd either be sure to emphasise that PayPal is only safe for buyers (and so not at all safe for sellers), or I simply wouldn't recommend PayPal as 'safe'

Agreed. The tips for sellers states to not use paypal. I'll emphasis that in the buyers section.

Any registrar proactive in helping domainers who have been scammed?
Most if not all registrars adopt a hands off approach to scams.

Their attitude seems to be

"You have transferred/pushed the domain names. You carry the can. We have nothing
to do with it as long as we get the renewal/transfer fees"

I agree, in particular GoDaddy is doing nothing to help someone who's been scammed.
