Protecting Against Stolen Domains

There's been lots of threads lately about stolen 4 letter .com domains on the various forums. I've also had some purchases from fraudulent buyers on TDNam - I've learned not to do immediate pushes with buyers that I don't know. I've been lucky enough not to have been burned - yet - but I've had a few close calls.

My guess is stolen domains are going to appear for resale pretty quick and at attractive prices. Even buying from a trusted seller doesn't protect you as the trusted seller could have gotten a deal on a stolen domain. So how do you guys figure out if a domain has been stolen?

I am not really sure how to answer your question because I haven't really figured it out yet. I am worried about selling my domains right now too.

I had this happen to me recently - I was a buyer on eBaY. I bought a domain name LLLL dot com. The money was paid through paypal, and the domain was transferred to me at a RESELLER site!

A month passed by and the domain is gone. The RESELLER transferred my domain to anther account and sold it again.

I went to the guy who sold me the domain at eBay, he says he doesn't know and I should contact the RESELLER.

The New Owner has no clue and said he bought it.

Basically 60 days passed on Paypal and I lost my money and the domain name.

This could happen too and not just charge back on Paypal and stuff.

sex.com was stolen several times but the domain is still charismatic , if LLLL.com's reaches $6000 nobody will looks the domains past, the important issue is at the moment domain has not got a open dispute
