how to determine

Hi,

Never new this site existed or this forum. As I have been reading through some of the posts I notice much of the value associated to a domain name comes from it's key words. Are these keywords created from current meta tags in the site? Or made up?

pls advise

thanks

I think you may be confusing some of the "search terms" as mentioned often in the Appraisals, with website "key words", though one could argue they are pretty much the same thing, depending on the context. Here, though, we are talking about the ACTUAL domain name being the searched terms.

Specifically for the Appraisals, obtaining S/E (Google or OVT) "search results" can assist with assigning popularity of two or more terms together, and thus better help with potential valuations, IMHO. It's hardly the only tool used to assign valuations, of course. Also, and perhaps more importantly, potential End user "leads" can be obtained using these same "search results".
Hope that helps (and makes sense ... I'm very sleepy).

Yes, the value of a domain name is often judged on the words it contains. As CoolHost said, these are the words in the actual domain itself.

For example, business.com is very valuable because 'business' is a highly used and sought after term.

Check this FAQ with more information about how to research to see how popular a term may be, compared to others.

And remember in my analogy, you NEVER want to be sucking MS. You want MS to do all the sucking.
