How long do tasters keep dropping names ?

Any idea how long tasters keep a domain after it drops, assuming it gets no traffic ?

Is there a set time they can keep it for free ?

Thanks

People are allowed to taste domains for a period of 5 days. After 5 days, they can no longer rerturn the domain for free. This does not prevent people from retasting the same domain again (a process known as domain kiting), which involves constantly tasting a domain over and over again without paying.
My suggestion to you if you want the domain, is pick it up as soon as you see it available again, and most importantly, do not visit the site or click on any links on it while it is being tasted, or it will most likely not be thrown back.

I thought just the same. Especially don't visit the same site each day to see if it's still taken. By this you just increases domain value for tasters.

Also do tasters use any automatic software to drop domains that they don't think to be valuable. Is it normal to expect next domain drop exaсtly 5*24 hours after original drop?

I do not know how most systems are. I was told from a Godaddy representative, that the the 5 day period you are allowed to hold a domain for until you can't get a refund is not an exact time. Meaning, if you ask them for a refund on a domain after 5 days and 2 hours, that it should not be a problem. If you ask after 6 days that would be a problem. I do not know if this is how the actual domain tasting companies do it. I think that you can assume that if they are not going to keep it, it will drop sometime on the 5th day, with them tasting it for as long as possible.

I am not sure if there is any way to find out the exact time when it drops again, so that you could snatch it up as soon as it does and they don't have the option to retaste. That would be sweet and would give the kiters a taste of there own medecine. Imagine the domain kiter getting ready to re-renew the 5 day trial period on the domain you want, and then as he adds it to his cart, it says "sorry this domain is taken", by you of course. That would be very nice. Anwyay, I think that you just have to pay attention after about 5 days and hope that he doesn't re-taste it.

Top is registry expiry date and bottom is registrar expiry date. This one will either get sent to auctions or deleted in due time. Which registrar ?

The registrar is ItsYourDomain.com
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=396778

I can't imagine it will get any traffic but I would like it to develop a local project.

I think ItsYourDomain.com partners with Snapnames. The name could show up there.

Good question - I thought it could only be done once, but I recently
hand regged a domain (Oct 10) and 1 day later I received an email
from someone who said they let it go accidentally (said they were
using it for email purposes??? ) and would I be willing to give it back
and when I checked whois history the name was originally registered
in Aug 07 - so 2 months of tasting? Can that be?
How does a domain drop 2 months after it's purchased?
And how do tasters get away with that?
