.name question

Are .name domains real tld. Or are they like the new.net domains.

Enom only seems to want to allow me to register first.last.name where godaddy will let me register anything.name.

Any help in clarifying this for me?

It is a real tld. Originally you could only register them as third level domains, such as you mentioned at enom(first.last.name). Starting this year they allow you to register second level domain level, like mentioned at godaddy(last.name). Some registrars I have noticed still just allow third level domain registering. You can get more info at www.nic.name.
