I was under the impresion companies can create there own effective top level domain, but the cost was to great to justify doing it.

Most of what has come in the last while has been over hyped.

No matter what you do people will always think ".COM"

I, too, believe the ".WEB" would be one to watch and evolve, IMHO.

Righto! The teeny weeny island of "Tuvalu".
PS. Any good sized wave could take it out permanently (just a fact, I do not wish this to actually happen).

It does seem that ICANN will be working off the following sponsored TLDs - .travel, .health, .union, .post, or .mobi

.web appears to be dead in the water

Have a great domain day.
Think that this company could make ICANN give .web sponsorship to them? If so, now is the timing for get few .web-s.
But, if they dont get sponsorship over .web, then you wasted your money
Pretty risky: or you get much, or you lose much (35$ per year is not a small price).
I personally think that competition for .web (if it becomes ICANN approved) will be huge, and that are small chances that this (webtld.com) firm will get it .

I heard ICANN think of .web almost 1 year before i heard about these (.travel ...) . And probably .health .union ... will be something like .museum.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=3865
But who knows. Until this affair over WLS is over dont think ICANN will do anything about new tlds.

I think .web or .travel like someone said have the best chances of getting more popular, but does anyone know what the domain counts for the past 12-Months are for every TLD? That way we can track if any tlds are gaining popularity.

.y would be awesome. Even though it won't happen. Think of all the names you could use with .y...like cind.y for example *Sigh* I don't see why uncommon tlds must cost so much to register. Has anyone checked the prices on international tlds lately? Not a pretty sight... http://www.alldomains.com/alltlds.html
