![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 32 free keyword tools for domain research Here's a list of 32 free keyword tools for domain research (my original 30, plus a few more added by other posters). Keyword tools are vital for SEO, but they can also be used as domain name analysis tools. Popular keywords form the basis for good generic domain names. And if the specific domain you want is taken, a keyword tool may help you come up with an acceptable alternative. Keyword tools can also help you optimize your domain’s parking page, analyze a domain or website you’re thinking about buying, and see what your competitors are doing. To assist both beginning and experienced domainers, and for my own benefit as well, I’ve put together this list of 30 web-based keyword research tools. All of these tools are free and functioning as of this writing. Some are repetitive, but many present data in different ways, so you may find that you like one more than another. I rejected several other tools because they are ineffective or non-functioning, including the goRank ontology lookup tool, KeywordLizard.com, and the GoLexa search tool. Here are the tools, in alphabetical order. Feedback is appreciated:

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You're welcome. I thought I'd get feedback from more people, actually. It took me a full day and a half to research and assemble this list.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks for the rep. Do you think it would be more useful if I broke the list down by function, or if I ordered them by usefulness? Out of all these 30, there are perhaps 8 or 9 that are very commonly used by professional domainers and webmasters. Perhaps I should make a separate list of those? I was also thinking of writing a separate post for each of the most useful tools, with specific examples of how domainers use the tool.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I would add... 31. www.compete.com which tries to estimate the number of monthly visitors over the last year. (Of course assuming there are visitors). |

![]() | Good list! I used a couple of them. I would definitely organize them somehow for easier viewing.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | stub, that's a nice one. I've added it to the list. Chronage, I tend to agree with you. I'll try breaking them down by function.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Nice list, rep added. Almost too many tools... which ones are your absolute favorites? I would add http://www.bustaname.com - wonderful brainstorming and thesaurus tool for making up new domain names. A lot of fun to use, and also proves that you can actually still find good .coms that are not regged. Also I'd like to see my own site there - estibot.com - provides keyword detection within a domain name, automatically separates the best keywords, then provides google sr, title popularity, anchor text popularity and overture for the keywords, and alexa rank and estimated traffic per day, backlink data and availability data for the domain.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Josh, thanks, I added BustaName.com to the list. I do have www.Estibot.com on my list of free appraisal tools on my blog (and I do use it often myself, it's a great tool), but I had not considered using it for keyword research.
