Direct Navigation / Type In Urls ?

There is no doubt that it is powerful ... that speaks for itself we have all read the stories of the domain kings and gods ... but does anyone actually know the metrics against holding the URL of the said term ? would site development with content of said term yield more traffic ?

Me .. I never ever type in the nav / search bar ... never have ...do not know why except I got G early on .. but the search engines yes the mighty G is no1 .. like it or not it does pretty much always drills out what I want to find ... I do use the " advanced tab " which roots out the rubbish normally

http://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search?hl=en

so it is just me ? do you type in ? if so does anyone have any firm stats on who does % wise ??

I caught a domain today with over 100k Ovt and had just 1 ... thats it just 1 type in ... and no click of course ....! so what the heck makes rev on direct nav ??

Discuss or diss ( I am a Brit so a Diss definition - in English means - laugh at! ridicule, put down, etc ) as appropriate .. bring it on ....

Please think about the question I posed . Have a look at your current domain inventory and the traffic ....This could be very interesting and FIRM stats on true generics would be an eyeopener.

I have polled over 250 people today ( yes not a sizeable sample I appreciate that ) but only 2 of the respondents said that they sometimes ever type in direct the term they search for ...?? so

Lets discuss

I am all for keyword generics and site development just to show my hand .. seo with content wins in my book ? - am I wrong ??? I would love to hear others views ...

Thanks

Scooby

midnight251 is on a distinguished road

We were sitting around having a few beers with some of the neighbors last weekend, and I posed that very question to them. There were about 8 or 10 people there, and what I found was that the people that were at least a bit computer savvy, used Google for their searches, and the people that just know how to turn the thing on, get on the Internet and fire up the browser, just started typing in URL's on what they were looking for.

For the people that just started typing URL's, they started with .com, and if they didn't find what they were looking for, they went to .net. If that didn't work, they tried different wordings on what they were looking for. I asked them, why not just fire up Google and type in what you're searching for. They said, that they can't be bothered, and usually find what they are looking for just typing it in.
