Cost for Registrars?

Does anyone know whats the cost to run your own Resgistry service (not reseller). In other words how much do ICCAN charge each registrar?

From what I found they charge US$6,500 yearly for six top level domain under there control.

But is that end of all? Is there a variable cost for each domain registration?

Besides annual fees you pay each registry. For example: .com/.net/.org would cost you $6.15 and $6.30

check this out too: http://www.icann.org/registrars/accr...financials.htm

Where did you get the $6.15 varaible cost?

ICANN only states varaible cost depends on volume.

Quote:
Quarterly accreditation fee (variable portion) paid once you begin registering domain names. This fee represents a portion of ICANN's operating costs based partly on your share of overall domain name registrations in the TLDs for which you are accredited, so it will vary depending on your volume of names registered as well as the total volume of all names registered.

This topic gets brought up pretty frequently. The facts are simple. It aint cheap. The above doesn't even consider hardware/facilities.

http://www.verisign.com/nds/naming/r...forms/rras.pdf

paragraph 5 states $6 per domain to registry. Add the variable costs based on volume and there you go. BTW, don't forget that fee hikes are in the works.

More resell accounts are as cheap as $6.95 each. So unless you are certain you will have enough names registered. Reselling is the better way to go.
