1and1.com Domain Names

has anyone used 1and1.com to register domain names? Any feedback?

They only charge $6 a year, is this the cheapest domain register that offers free Masked forwarding?

Thanks,
-Ryan

I would personally highly recomend against using 1and1 you have absolutely no control over your domain name and they are very militant you could find yourself in a situation like me where by the looks of it I am losing my domains even tho I dont owe them any money.

Agreed with all the fellow NPers here. I am currently with 1and1.com's hosting plan, and I am completely disgusted at their web interface.

Perhaps I am not good at math but this does not add up. They sell domains at a loss (5.99) but probably spend millions on advertising. They must have a very good CFO

Riceman, they make most of their money from hosting and email, I think it is something like 4 million domains they manage

Like people have mentioned already I would stay away from 1and1 and go to domain registars like NameCheap.com, GoDaddy and etc. You then know you will have full control of the domain instead of 1and1 being able to control what goes on with the domain.

they undercharge for domains with no control,
overcharge for nameservers etc,

i actually paid almost $30 for a uk domain when in the same 1and1 account i have a lot for $10 (2 years) which is about the cheapest u can get them for anywhere. reason i did it was just fed up with having to use forwarding, (which is slow) cant change the nameservers or anything for the cheap price
