Are u addicted to Domains?

If you answer yes to more than 3 of these questions you might consider getting help.

1. Lying about how many domains you bought or let expire.
2. When you here a new phrase or slogan do you think to yourself... is the "new slogan+.com" available.
3. Do you go check to see if the "new slogan+.com" is available from question 2.
4. Do you start thinking in keywords on normal conversations (for the serious domainer).
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/330885-are-u-addicted-to-domains.html
5. Do you check your parking stats more than the required normal updates. For example if the parking service updates their stats just once an hour and you check more than once per hour.
6. Neglecting obligations at home, work, or school to spend time to search for domains or to check stats on domains.
7. Do you ever go back and look at the domains you recently purchased and say to yourself "what was I thinking?".
8. Do you Feel a constant desire to be online searching for domains or checking stats on domains.
9. Do you feel instant gratification when you find that special name that you know will get traffic or PPC?
10. Do you deny that you have a domain problem.

At one point - I would proof read my PM's and Emails to make sure there wasn't an available Catch Phrase contained in them before I hit Send.

Hello - My name is Mark ... I'm Addicted

if you read carefully, the new user terms that you all agreed to when you signed up for NP required you to be addicted to domaining, so don't feel bad about it.

I think it's pretty simple why everyone (including myself) is addicted to domains. Everyone feels they have a chance at making a ton of money from domains. Owning a quality domain can bring in loads of money with little to no work required. Everyone wants a life getting paid for not working.

When we think about domains and finding the right ones we see a possibility that a certain domain can make us a little money. We see the possibility of getting more and more money from domains that we eventually are able to buy a highly generic name.

It basically comes down to money. Which everyone wants more of. Money is what drives most people to live well, or to live and survive.

How much do you charge an hour, Dr. Thinking1? ;P

I think the question is...Do forums create/encourage the addiction?

Think about it, if there weren't any domain forums, would you really spend that much time on domaining? I get tired of looking through lists after about a half hour. But if I look at a list of 2000 names, then take a break and see what crazy things people are saying in the forums, I feel refreshed and ready to waste another half hour of my life.

Haha

I agree fully that I wouldn't spend nearly as much time as I do on domains if there weren't any forums to talk about it on. I'm glad we have a place like namepros where we can talk about domains and learn more and more about them. Like most people, no one in my life or community really knows about domaining. It's good to come to a place where people actually know what you are talking about.

Great thread! The worst thing is - the more I have, the more I want.
And forums (and blogs) definitely reinforce this "addiction".

The other day i saw a questionaire on "if you are addicted to the internet" and I modified some of the questions to fit "addicted to domains".

Something that I realized is that - Very few of us Domainers can actually say "Thats it - I am not buying anymore" ; unless its due to financial hardships.

However, it is very easy to go overboard in buying before you realize you have overspent.

The best help I can offer for all of us domainers that need help is :

1. Instead of buy a name when you first find it available, think about it for a day (dont leave these names in your cart at godaddy). Or spend more time searching to see if you find something better.

2. When you think you found a good name, go search SEDO, Afternic, BuyDomians to see what names are listed there that are similar and how long those domains have been on the market, if there had been any offers, and how much they are asking.

3. Moderation. This goes for time searching or buying. Believe it or not there are other things in this world beside domains, traffic, and PPC. Sometimes you can get so caught up into these domains and not even realized about all the great other things you can find on the internet such as Online Poker, Adult Web Cams, Get Rich Quick Schemes, Work From Home Scams, etc. Just make sure that when you search for these items you do it from my domain parking links.

The problem with that is when you find a good name and wait for a day someone else would grab it. Sometimes it only take a few minutes for the domain to disappear. Why wait if you can taste it?

A domain similarity doesn't give the domain a similar value or sometimes its not even close.
