They know the difference - it is just that nobody has written them an article about the fine upstanding legitimate profession of domain investment.

I saw Wikipedia's page last week. There are some interesting links at the bottom of the page detailing various cybersquatting cases, including JLo and Nissan.

I hope some of the more articulate forum members (I readily admit I am not one of them...) will be able to right this "wrong" by contributing/editing the information and clarifying the difference between the two subjects.

Well it is a work in progress. The article has to have a section on the difference between speculation in the primary market and secondary market speculation (dropcatching) along with references to Sedo, Snapnames, Pool and Afternic. Though they might require separate articles.

The link the the .mobi Premium/Reserved domains listing page? That's a legitimate link to mTLD's page. It might be possible to redo it as a reference link.

Well it is just a Wikipedia article on domain name speculation. It would be only fair to cover both primary market speculation and secondary speculation. It might be possible to do it without referring directly to the websites and explain the dropcatching process.

It depends. There are clear rules against linkspamming and similar inclusions. The information has to be verifiable and relevant. The ccTLD pages tend to be more closely watched though. But the main thing is that the edits have to make sense and contribute to the general understanding of the topic. The .mobi premium/generics link is not spam. The link is to the section on the .mobi registry's (mtld.mobi) website dealing with the reasoning behind the decision and the lists.

I've added the link to the 242 page PDF of the .mobi reserved generic words and phrases to the article. Apparently someone thinks that .mobi is not a real domain and is worthless. I suppose you get all sorts on Wikipedia.
