Talking unintentionally worst URLs ever!

...Everyone knows that if you are going to operate a business in today’s world you need a domain name. It is advisable to look at the domain name selected as other see it and not just as you think it looks. Failure to do this may result in situations such as the following companies who deal in everyday humdrum products and services but clearly didn’t give their domain names enough consideration (all URLs are actual and point to legitimate websites!):

A site called ‘Who Represents‘ where you can find the name of the agent that represents a celebrity. Their domain name… is
www.WhorePresents.com

Experts Exchange, a knowledge base where programmers can exchange advice and views at
www.ExpertSexChange.com

Looking for a pen? Look no further than Pen Island at
www.PenisLand.net

Need a therapist? Try Therapist Finder at
www.TheRapistFinder.com

And now, we have the Mole Station Native Nursery, based in New South Wales:
www.MolestationNursery.com

Welcome to the First Cumming Methodist Church. Their website is
www.CummingFirst.com

Then, of course, there’s these brainless art designers, and their whacky website:
www.SpeedoFart.com
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/219291-unintentionally-worst-urls-ever.html

Want to holiday in Lake Tahoe? Try their brochure website at
www.GotaHoe.com

Please post some other wacky company webiste names if you know of any - it's always a good laugh!

Funny nevertheless.

Would be fun to own one of those. JUST think of all the traffic from webmaster forum breakrooms alone...

sorry about the double posting - apparently I have missed the previous instances of this topic and I had no idea that a thorough research of past threads needs to be done in order to avoid such mishaps... I hope I am not going to get slapped with an NP fine for this incident, in which case I'd appeal till no end
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=219291
I just wanted to share some humor with everyone... it may have been posted in the past, but that does not mean that everyone got to see it. I myself for example, a very frequent reader of this forum, have missed it BOTH times (Nick ) - and it is not a topic I'd normally search for - just an impulse read to brighten up one's day.
So my message is, unless a thread is of a clearly intentional spam-type, maybe it'd be a good idea to let the ocasional repeats go in peace. And for those who are already familiar with the topics - simply do not open them. Amen.
And everyone, please have a great day! With all the crap going on in the world, a bit of laughter should be encouraged rather than squashed.
(damn, did I take some of the above comments personally or what!)

Well your thread is better because you actually post the DNs and type them capitalizing the correct areas so it can be read humorously

They weren't so funny the first time I saw that other thread but reading this one made me LOL!!!

THanks,

oh, and if you want to look at some odd sites, I do have www.losersites.com up and running.....

I thought it was great, and I too did not see the previous postings. I think the MolestationNursery.com is the worst one, that just makes me cringe... And the CummingFirst.com one is the funniest, because it's a church. I found a site once, which I wish I could remember, that showcased church screwups.. Like in their bulletins and newletters, etc... I guess parishioners sent them in to the site, kind of like on Jay Leno... It's just funny because you expect them of all people to catch things that sound so evil

Interesting - my take on this is as follows: start with a domain: "www.ac", add a folder named "dc", set all error requests to the server (such as ac/dc.com) to redirect to wherever. Very well thought out.

What made me ponder a lot more than this was your short story as well as the poetry. You have a very captivating style and if the story is really true - my hat off to you for sharing it!

yes that seems to be exactly how they did it ivoy.

A slash is not actually a valid character in a domain name so there should be no way to do what it looks like it is.

The dc.com is either the script name (we servers can be made to use any extension for a script) or just a dummy script name (in which as you quite rightly said would direct to a 404 page which then forwards to wherever they want).

to prove this: http://www.ac/i_must_sleep_now takes you to the same casino page as will http://www.ac/piuadshfpiuasdhf - it's not hard to do, just a good idea someone had. I am curious though to find out how many fans of AC/DC actually type www.ac/dc.com into their browers.

Yep -- the domain was www.ac and all the rest that you mentioned above. It made me puzzled when I first saw it... but think of how many noob Internet users who don't know better would try to access the AC/DC fan sites with this.

And thanks for the comments. The story on www.randypendleton.com is 100% true -- sad, but true ('Sad But True' -- another metal song lol Metallica...). I plan to do more with the site in a few months, when my first story/book gets placed on the market... but all the same, thanks. It's nice feeling appreciated.

they dont necessarily have too, the fact that it has ac/dc in the address it should if indexed get fairly high in search engines if someone has that as their search term.

Most average web users would not notice it would be an invalid address.

I'm the owner of the domain www.ac so I guess I can answer you...

During the last couple of months there have been between 12.000 and 15.000 requests each month for the "file" dc.com. And there are also a few requests to all the "top domains": dc.net, dc.de, dc.no, etc. So I guess I could set up a real AC/DC fan site and earn some money on banners, but I'm too afraid to get sued by some record company if I do. And I'm also no fan of their music, so I don't know what to write there...

I registered the domain "www" in the Ascension Island (.ac) just because my initials are "A.C." and I wanted to have a cool domain. To my surprise a lot of people tried immediately to download the "dc.com"-file as soon as the site was up, and at first I didn't realize why... It wasn't until I entered the complete URL in a browser that I found out what was going on...

It's nice to hear from you You did well regging that domain. There are a billion ways (hyperbole, but still) you could make good cash with that domain. If you're ever interested in selling it, just email randy_pendleton at hotmail and we can talk. It'd go well with my www.ozzyasylum.com site

small world! (or just really good traffic tracking software ) - thank you so much for the response and congratulations on such a great, although unintentional catch! Too bad ac/dc is not on top of the world anymore, as I am sure they would pay the top dollar to you for one of the most original domains on the planet!

Yes, I'll thank the weblog analyzer program. I was studying the weblogs for the first time in like six months, and saw the reference to this thread... :-) I didn't know about this site until yesterday.

The great thing is that I could still keep the www.ac for my personal things, and they could have the "directory" dc.dom for their needs.
