Caution .FM - Something interesting, discount prices.

I've discovered an interesting situation with .FM domains.

Apparently they use a pricing scheme similar to that of .TV, with a multi-tier pricing level, with the registration fee depending on which level of quality they assign to a given name.

Well, just above the regular level (which typically is around $75-$95) they have a batch of names at the $200 level. These are $200 whether you check directly at the .FM registry (www.nic.fm) or at www.idotz.net, but GoDaddy has these names priced at their regular $69 .FM registration fee, along with normal names.

A few quick examples.

LOV.FM - $200 at the registry - $69.95 godaddy
EAT.FM - $200 at the registry - $69.95 godaddy
BOT.FM - $200 at the registry - $69.95 godaddy

Anyway, if you were ever considering starting a web radio show/site, these might make for pretty cool branding possibilities.

Note: I have never registered any .FM domains, and don't really have any plans to. I am not suggesting YOU do either. I'm simply pointing out something I found, in case it might help anybody who had already been looking at this extension.

Knowing godaddy, I bet they would turn around and charge you an extra $130 or more to cover the cost after-the-fact, or deny you the name and not give you 70 back. Just a guess.

Well, having a positive attitude.. that's the important thing.

Seriously though, I've never lost a dollar at GoDaddy and I've spent lots of money there over the years. Say what you will about certain aspects of their service and support, they still offer one of the best overall value's around, and for a company that size, have a relatively small percentage of serious refund issues or bogus charges.
