SnapNames Question

A month ago I placed a bid at SnapNames on a domain name that is supposed to delete today (March 8th). No auction ever started so I figured I would get the name but I haven't so far. And when I goto the domain site it is now a parked page. Did someone scoop up the name and park the page? If so, why didn't SnapNames start an auction?

Sounds like another backordering company managed to get it before Snapnames - this happens, you will probably get an email from them saying that they are sorry they were Unsuccessful.

Different backordering companies have agreements with various registers so the domains are sometimes past to their partners to auction off.

You can check out the whois info to see which company got the domain. SnapNames.com is a great backorder service but unfortunately are they not able to get all domains. Always use several backorder services if the domain is important for you.

If you can find out which backordering companies are partnered with which register you won't need to do this IMO - All you will do is alert more people and more backodering companies to the fact that the name is dropping - which means more competition

It seems surprising the industry standard is to list domains available for backorder even if the company does not have an exclusive right to the domain.

That is the situation in this case. SN would have listed the domain on backorder, but the domain dropped elsewhere. I have had the happen on a few domains I have backorded at SN.

Oh I usually only backorder at Snapnames if I can help it - I don't like the other places too much as they send out emails to everyone and people can also join in once the bidding starts.
