Transferring a Domain??? Help!

When you want to sell a domain, do you want to transfer it or is it called something else? The place where I registered the domain said there was a $30 fee to sell the domain to someone else but I didn't know if this was the same as transferring a domain. If transferring the domain name is what you need to do in order to sell it does anyone know of a cheaper fee to re-sell?
Thanks.
Beth

what lord means is: the buyer has to open an member account [which is free] in enom [if he already hasnt one] and then your domain in enom can be pushed to his account for free.

many other registrars/resellers also give that feature: namecheap, dotster etc

Yes, you have to watch out for these fees because some registration companies will charge a fee for you to transfer a domain to a new owner. The worst of these companies is register.com who now charges $200 to transfer to a new owner.

This is why most domain resellers always use domain registrars that have free transfers or allow you to "push" the domain into another account.

Ok, you're not neccessarily on the hook for the $30. Here's what you can do -

Have your customer (or you can do it) go to a different registration company and request to transfer the domain over. Namecheap.com or godaddy.com are good.

It will cost around $8.95 to request the domain be transferred to the new company, but you'll also get an extra year added to the registration.

It also takes about 3 days to go through, and as the current domain owner you'll need to respond to emails confirming the transfer.

Once it's at the new registration company, you can give the domain to the new owner.

Yes! Be sure to associate with the Registrar's that offer this "Free Push" feature. This is critical, IMHO.
Good Luck.

PS. Posted at the same time as you ... RJ. Good point about these so-called "pulls" in lieu of transferring through the Registrars (and incurring these crazy Registrar fees).

also, with the added year, ask your customer if they would be willing to play more for the extra added year.

Remember, too, when someone "pulls" the domain over to their account at their favorite Registrar, it is that BUYER who will be assessed this additional one-year renewal fee upon completion of the "pull" (transfer in). It is VERY important to clearly spell this out when listing your Auctions, as well as in formulating your Asking price(s). IMHO.

Enom is one of the more popular registrars for it's free "push" feature. You can get free $8.95 accounts retail or reseller accounts. (By chance, I have some to offer PM me if interested)
