Afternic.com

Anyone here has any experience with Afternic.com

Do you have any luck with selling your domains with them?

Look like they focus on premium names only because there is a $60 sales/escrow fee?

Please share.

afternic recently introduced bazaar.afternic.com which has no sales/escrow fee. Instead it has a listing fee, and prices automatically go down. The bazaar is designed with wholesalers in mind.

Afternic is a great site. Definitely more geared towards the entire market now that there are two ways to sell. Pay per ad in the Bazaar or list your premium names. Take em for a test drive, you shouldn't be disappointed.

I've sold about 15 domains in the bazaar portion of the site since it went live on 12/1. Prices aren't the greatest, but it's a good place to get something for a name you might otherwise let drop. If you're looking for 3 digit sales, you may be disappointed with bazaar. I have sold a number of names in a range from $4 to $50. The reverse auctions last about 7-9 days. I've also sold some on afternic, but sales are not instant and you have to be patient waiting for the right buyer to come along.

I've made a few nice purchases at the bazaar site as well.

dotNAMES is an unknown quantity at this point

Afternic is definitivly a robber-system.
AVOID IT ABOVE ALL.
I wouldn't waste your time by speeching here about the bad story i experienced with them, but it seems that they are only interrested by this 60$ escrow fee.
I refused to sale my domains because i had the feeling the seller should have the choice to take their expansive escrow service or deal thru paypal..... which is free...
For that kind of remark my account was disable without any further notice.
So what i have to say is:
-It can be interresting to work with afternic if you have a $$$ domain name to sell,
-Otherwise, be wise and avoid them as the plague.
Here are my 2 cents.

I have been very happy with Afternic. I've made a number of sales and their escrow process is very easy to navigate (have one finishing up there right now). The Collins brothers are also very honorable people to deal with. They tell you the fee right up front (and I don't think it is out of line - Sedo charges $100) so if it is not worth it to you you don't have to waste your time listing. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

I agree with Duke & AdoptableDomains!

Afternic= safe and secure sale/ buy....but with growing popularity, the number of domains listed are growing too...so your domains may be invisible unless you pay for one of their special listings....so you have to be patient, and do your best to promote your domains...eventually good things would happen! lol

I like afternic, and believe that their $60 fee is reasonable for high-value transactions. After all, they are running a business for profit, not a charity. For low-value domains, then there's afternic bazaar.

That's one of the reason I launched my site:

http://www.biddn.com

I'm too small to compete with them but at least I don't charge anything until the domain or website is sold!

$9.95 annually prevents you from using one of the world's largest domain sales venues?
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=16401

I think that is dirt cheap by any standard, especially considering the traffic they have and exposure they give your domain names. Or should they do all of the work they do and pay for all of the programming and speedy servers they have but get nothing in return from people who use what they built?

Any info on the traffic of Afternic vs Sedo. Am currently at Sedo but am thinking about moving some names to Afternic to give them a spin. Currently have some names for sale at Bazaar and have sold a couple, but as stated in a previous post, the names sell for low prices and essentially you are selling to other resellers, which is the stated purpose of the service. A name that one reseller might drop, could prove useful to another seller w/ a different approach and/or set of contacts.

I consider $10/year a reasonable and nominal fee, just for the fact that it shows you are serious about selling domains there. If there was no charge, the place would probably be spammed with fake or false domains and unverified and missing sellers. Being annual it is also a way to "clean house" of missing sellers and non-existent domains when the accounts expire. That was one of the problems with the old afternic, was that names never got removed when sold elsewhere or expired and dropped.

I think the old Afternic when Register.com owned it was charging about $50 when they divested to the new owners.
