'Phrase' domains, anyone playing?

Spent the day looking around. There are some interesting 3-5 word, up to 35 (longest I looked at today) character names. Not just strung keywords but sensable phrases which have OVT. It seems that Fab has cornered the .com versions.

I added about 50 to my 'think about' list but couldn't resist RecreationVehicleInsurance_biz with an OVT of 283173. Am going to park and see what happens -- nice paying keywords.

I think this type of domains may have some potential.

The com does indeed rule. That is why I am just doing a few in us, info & biz (only if all others taken) as a parking test.

I really think that .info and eventually .us will become more popular in the next few years, as well. The government has initiated projects with some .us development, and there is talk of the .info extension too, but this hasn't actually happened yet. I've bought some .info's but no .us or .biz yet.

A 'phrase' (for lack of a better term) is where someone might enter into a SE the phrase 'apply for a credit card' thus the domain would be ApplyForACreditCard.ext. The OVT for this one is 254492 and is registered in all major extensions (available in cc but not ws). It is difficult to find these with OVT of over 50K and popular keywords that have not been reg'd.

My thinking is that as the number of extensions increases what is left of the dot becomes more important. Ok lets say that you are relocating to Springfield Missouri and wanting to find a realtor.
1. You could search real estate -- many results
2. search sprinfgfield real estate -- again many results from different states.
3. search springfield missouri real estate -- a few pages of results

If the holder of SpringfieldMissouriRealEstate.ext (BTW reg'd in com and net) has done a good job with content and SEO they stand a good chance of hearing from you.

I have used this example before but there is a local guy using LowCostLifeInsurance.com -- very bad site but as I understand it brings in considerable business.

This is just another speculation. Lets face it if you don't have very large $$ and/or lots of keyword names this whole thing is a crap shoot.

I figure that since more and more people are using 2,3 and 4 word phrases for search in order to narrow the search results the short 3 word phrase domain name is looking like an investment that could be worthwhile for parking.

I picked up a couple 3 word phrase .info's when .info's were free and they both get decent traffic - weightwatchersrecipes.info and carpaltunnelsyndrome.info
Both way too long for my liking but both have pulled enough traffic and ppc income that I renewed them

I think that Overture could be misleading you a little for RecreationVehicleInsurance though. DigitalPoints Overture/WordTracker tool shows:

WordTracker

commercial vehicle insurance 144.0 /day
recreational vehicle insurance 115.0 /day
vehicle insurance 88.0 /day
california commercial vehicle insurance 85.0 /day
motor vehicle insurance 61.0 /day
cheap vehicle insurance 43.0 /day
vehicle insurance quotes 19.0 /day
commercial vehicle insurance companies 16.0 /day
vehicle identification number insurance claims motorcycles 16.0 /day

Overture

recreation vehicle insurance 9,309.8 /day ??????????????
vehicle insurance 163.8 /day
commercial vehicle insurance 64.8 /day
recreational vehicle insurance 62.7 /day
insurance claim settlement vehicle broker 25.0 /day
insurance claim vehicle 22.4 /day
american vehicle insurance company 19.3 /day

Could be as I didn't look that close. I was just going through results for insurance, picking likely phrases and watching football. Could be why the biz wasn't reg'd. Still fits in my test.

Cera, IMHO your domains get decent traffic because you have done some Seo and not because the type-ins.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/149041-phrase-domains-anyone-playing.html
Even when someone type "weightwatchersrecipes" in some browsers if they forget the domain extension they were automatically redirected to the .com not to .info.
So, to use a "phrase" domain on parking you must choose the .com.
But, if you plan to develop it and do some SEO then you can choose any domain extension.. even the .name.. witch s$%&s bigtime
To be sure your domains will get traffic you must check the keywords without the spaces.
Thats just my 2 cents...

Absolutely right. I don't expect type in traffic. I expect search engine directed traffic.

carpaltunnelsyndrome.info is undeveloped (parked). Parked doesn't necessarily mean not optimized. WeightWatchersRecipes.info is only semi-developed because it was generating search engine driven hits in the first place.

I do. And I often optimize for keyword phrases without the spaces if WordTracker/Overture looks good for those keyword phrases without spaces.
e.g. "weightwatchers" 482.0 /day, "weightwatchers recipes" 26.0 /day
"carpaltunnel" 26.0/day according to WordTracker

I Totally agree.Never thought about this
I dont have "phrase" domains, but, IMO they can be very profitable if correct words were used
