Question What should I do?

I have this pretty good domain (JetRates.com) that was appraised at low-mid XXX undeveloped and XXXX-XX,XXX developed (with patience of course). I really just wanna get it off my hands. I'd let it go for around $250 which I think is fair and other people agree with me. I've had pretty much NO interest though! Not one offer or inquiry! I would develope it if I could... but I can't. And I don't have 500 bucks to pay someone to do that for me. I've got til next November to sell it so it's not that I'm worrying... it's just that I really wanna get it off my hands so I can move on to some other things.

Should I just get rid of it for as cheap as possible? I'm guessing even if I was posting it for sale for $100 then I would get no replies even then! What isn't appealing about this domain? If I had the money and skills I would jump at an oppertunity like this.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/143878-what-should-i-do.html

Just tryin' to get an idea about what I should do. Thanks.

You first off have to understand appraisals mean very little, free or paid appraisals. To anyone who appraised your name for x,xxx tell them I will sell it to you for $100 you just appraised min $1000 what a bargain. They will not this is the only industry in the world where people don't jump on a self proclaimed bargain I mean you did not say it was worth $1,000 they did and they won't buy it for 10% Now growing up in the financial world I don't understand this I mean today DELL is worth $30 a share the markets "appraisial of Dell's worth, I would buy it at 10 % of the value give me all you have at $3. Secondly Jet Rates sounds cool, but it has no OVT, little google with " " SO you have to hold onto it or develop. You have to be careful to buy a lot of names where you don't know before you click buy that you can flip it, PPC IT, DEVELOP IT or hold as an investment. TOO many people buy names and the name doe snot fit any of the four. If you have a limited budget for names it will run out quick. If you need to sell put it on EBAY and or Namepros AUCTION GOOD LUCK it does sound cool IMO

Thanks very much for the great paragraph of information! Adding rep for that.

And Jet is a short term for an airplane and rates means prices and how much it costs to fly.

Taylor, someone looking for airplane tickets or fares, will very undoubtly search for 'jet'. the term jet is more closely related to private jets though.
and the google "results" show all kinds of other terms used for jet rates, mostly math and physics related.
the name does indeed sound cool, but as i said, I think it will be hard to flip it fast for a decent price.
good luck with it.

Thanks seeker! I agree that it might be associated with private jets or even something to do with physics but if marketed correctly and developed into a nice website, that could change.

Have you tried contacting end buyers? I think it is an excellent extension, worth low x,xxx at the very least. To be frank, I don't really understand why people aren't falling all over themselves to get it.

Try contating a few airlines (probably smaller ones). Also, do a search on Google and see if there are any websites specialising in providing information on airfares - there's bound to be many of them, and quite a few probably have lousy extensions and/or names.

Good luck!

Thanks G C.

I contacted several jet companies such as westjet, easyjet, and bluejet. No response yet. One told me they forewarded my email to their other department but that was a few weeks ago.

one difference in domain is the market is not as liquid as stock market. Thus in this kind of market, you need to be patient. If many people think it is a cool name, you really need to believe that there are going to be more people like it. If you can't wait, then start a no reserve ebay auction, for sure it will be sold.

Give it more time, then if you don't hear back from them in like a months time send them a follow up email. Go for the end user sale, hang in there if you can, it does have a nice ring to it.

Next time try to think twice before registering a name. But if you did it try to promote it as wide and deep as possible. As for this particular domain -- what you have been planning to di with it? Something net related or a site where travelers/businessmen/technicians can rate jet planes?

IMO build just one page for it logo included, and then try to sell off the domain. An idea expressed as a web page is better than an idea expressed by a boring paragraph as a part of your promo efforts.

One of the things I have had to learn in this business is to develop patience. If you have the name until next November, presumably you have only just recently got it. While it is possible to flip a name in just a few short weeks, this is something I have only rarely done to an end user.

The name is competing with millions of others for a buyer and this will usually not happen overnight, IMHO.

I have sold numerous names this year to end users that I have held for 1, 2, 3 years but have turned annual reg fee into low - mid $xxx. Having a "for sale" page has definitely helped me encourage potential buyers of names to email me expressing their interest. However it is a numbers game - if you get a few enquiries, you have a small chance of a sale; if you get lots of enquiries you have a larger chance of a sale; if you get lots of enquiries consistently you will get the sales.
