What is up with these new domain extensions?

I just got an email from registerfly about some special domain extensions which are opening up. Some of them are .info .game .xxx but you need a special browser plugin to see them?

They're really nothing new. They are just new.net domains that have been sold for 2-3 years now direct. They are third/fourth level domains from new.net (ie my.game.net.net) that can be seen without the new.net ending with the plugin. For resale, there is really no current value.

I don't see this taking off so those domains are worthless to me.

If AdoptableDomains post is accurate, then I would advise one to steer ~ clear of this extension/investment.

The new.net url's (I'm told) have much difficulty in being accepted and found on the critical search engines.

(If someone else can elaborate more on that topic/search engines with new.net.. I'de appreciate it)

Current search engine policy disallows the listing of new.net domains. So if you have tennis.game, you'll have to submit it as the full domain, which is tennis.game.new.net .

I agree. Although it does make the web a little more organized it's a bit late. Everyone has established their site and won't want to move. Plus, without another IE verison coming out with the plugin, I won't be going out of my way to install it. Seems pointless since they're about maybe oh... 5 new.net domains online.

I agree with all of you that, in my opinion, new.net is probably not worth the effort. There are various projects like this where plug ins are used to initiate a domain lookup, one of which is navicode.com. With the small database of keywords they have, I would not want to waste my time investing any effort into them!

imo .xxx and .game wont take off at all. as for .info thats diffrent i own a few and i think they are perfect for information on citys/health ect... they might take a bit of time to get know but there defo worth having a few long as there related to information
