Question What’s the biggest negative about the domain name game?

I don’t mean for this to be a pessimistic thread but I’d like to know what irks you about domaining. It could be not catching a dropping name you really wanted or someone beating you out of a registration by just a few hours or just about anything else that’s a pain in the butt when it comes to this domain name game!

Cancer Survivorship Breast Cancer

Losing your money!!!! Regging worthless names over and over, always thinking "this is the biggy, this one is gonna make me rich".
But, honestly, seeing other people sell domains for $x,xxx to $xx,xxx , and you can't even sell one for $xx.......

Ha!!

simply list their virtual propert with brokers. This is not enough if you are really
interested in making money selling domains.

Our company may offer you much more effective service for sellers and buyers : -
"Domains Wanted Ads".

Many sellers and buyers found each others via this board. It works much better that
common strategy "list and wait". You'll be able to contact your potential buyers
direct via email.

I don't show the details (service URL and conditions) in this email because this is

This service is very effective if you are selling domains and web sites.

Here are only several subjects of domains wanted ads:

- Investing / Financial domains wanted.

- Hyphenated .coms, .infos and .nets wanted. Up to $ 1,250 per name.

My impulse purchases from Amazon or Jos. A Banks can be returned and I get my $$$ back. When I register almost 100 .cc's a year ago and then think better of more than 3/4ths of them... tough cookies, Allan!
A letter from anyone asking for an appraisal or "verification" who has "PhD" next to their name ("Piled Higher and Deeper").
Saggy and a few others who want every domain that drops.
Other than that, I'll be an optimist(ic bluebird taking a dump on your shoulder)

Definitely the big companies taking good domains out of circulation. There's one domain in particular that I'd love to develop because it relates to a hobby of mine. It has no commercial potential at all, and is probably worth $100 tops. I suppose I might consider paying as much as $200 for it if I had money to burn. The current owners, who have a reputation for never reducing their prices at all have it listed for ~$2000. It'll never sell, so it'll never get developed, which is a great shame.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=141484

N.B. I'm not saying the domain should be taken away from it's current owners, or anything radical like that, just that this kind of thing irks me.

The fact that most the decent ones are taken, and anyone just entering the market can't make any profit in comparison to someone who snagged a few good ones a decade or two ago. (Don't tell me there are still good ones available, because there arent!)

What irks me is the small response and interest from potential buyers in my names. With over 350, I think I should be getting at least an offer a week, but... the last week or so has been pretty dry.

Cystic Fibrosis Diabetes Breast Cancer Save a Life
Clowns who think all they need to make a fortune in this business is to
think up some really crappy "PREMIUM" name and within hours of regging it sell for a $xxxx price tag

Just recently a young guy Regged a name here at Namepros.
Listed name on a Parking Service.
Offered it for Sale in Fixed price Marketplace
Asked for Appraisals, in both the appraisal section and Live Chat.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=141484
Got Appraisals for the usual Reg-Fee to $xx low range
He said to everyone he could do better as it was Worth at least $xxx HIGH
sent a PM to me about it and then Sold it to me for < 100NP$

All in a matter of 3 Hours
I know some people are impatient , but that is ridiculous.

It is getting all too common , People see the high prices being paid for Domains at various places.

One aspect of these high valued sales has not been apparant to a lot of people .
TIME ,some of these names have been promoted and marketed for months/ years until the willing buyer purchased the name.

Yeah, I would have to say how you think your domain is going to be worth so much. Than you come to the reality it's worth reg fee.

I guess for me it's the regrets you will all probably have, of not buying some domain name/s (now it's taken and maybe sold for a huge price) or maybe all the crappy domains you bought when you started in the domain game.

I hate it when I get so into it, that I buy so many domains and am too lazy to build them. I have like 5 projects all under construction of which I'm afraid that I might not finish before my reg runs out.

My biggest pet peeve is all these TLDs and ccTLDs and whatever else comes out. Just when you think you have every domain for a possible domain more come out. I think that really brings down the value of domains. Every country and topic wants there own extension.

Wanting to have a certain domain name that relates to my interest (and practically has very little value) and wanting to develop it, but it's lying somewhere idle or being sold for a ridiculously high price.
