Quite possible, but not necessarily.
As in the case of most generic questions, it would serve us well if we knew the hypothetical names. IOW: eShares.com is great. eJumpingJacks.com not so much. eComp.com perfect , e-Klown.com not so much.
Same basic rule for "i".
I do, however, enjoy the "e" more than the "i" on the whole.

"e" usually represents "electronic" or "i" represents "internet", so if your business is something of that nature then its perfect. But if it doesnt make any sense when you insert those words instead of the letters, then the domain probably won't take off too much. If you have something like eRugs it wouldnt make any sense since there is no such thing as "Electronic Rugs" (to my knowledge at least). But if you have eTrade, which stands for "Electronic Trade" that makes a lot of sense, so eTrade is worth much more than eRugs for this reason (and for many other reasons).

Well, eBay chose that name because traditionally most of the trading was done in "bays" where ships came in, sold and exchanged all kinds of cargo. So, it actually makes alot of sense. eBay is a new way of selling, "Electronic Bay" where cargo is sold and exchanged electronically.

The eBay story - Pierre Omidyar, who had created the Auction Web trading website, had formed a web consulting concern called Echo Bay Technology Group. "Echo Bay" didn't refer to the town in Nevada, the nature area close to Lake Mead, or any real place. "It just sounded cool," Omidyar reportedly said. When he tried to register EchoBay.com, though, he found that Echo Bay Mines, a gold mining company, had gotten it first. So, Omidyar registered what (at the time) he thought was the second best name: eBay.com.

I like the "e" more than the "i" as well, but I don't know why. The opposite should be true: "i" is more general than "e", i.e. you can replace etrade with itrade, but you can not replace idine with edine.

I prefer e as well.

e sounds much nicer to me and I would be prepared to fork out more for e- rather than i-

ALL good names starting with e, i are gone. There might be some nice e-, i- names available, but I wouldn't reg unless it's a good e-"oneword" with .com extension.

E is more popular than I right now, most people associate I words with "ipod". I guess it does work for some oneworder's, but just tagging an e onto an existing name is stupid.

e and i are both good choices when it is in front of a short word, like enet, isite etc!

I think domains starting with e are certainly good for registering, enom, ebay, ecommerce are a few good examples. Even our company's name starts with 'e'. If you check it with silktide.com and other tools we have good overall ranking and good online presence providing outsourcing support.

However, many are already registered.

Find something else.

I tried a few hundred just now, all didn't work.

Since "A" is a word, I think it certainly worth to register domains starting with A. Since X represents unknown, maybe starting with "X" is also good.

i just purchased eGigabytes.com for reg fee. What do you guys think? Seems like a good name for a site selling storage. The "e" seems appropriate in this case.

Well, it's not that great name, and it's not that bad one. So I'd suggest developing it rather than reselling it
