Need some help - register name

Hello,

I bought a domain name on a different forum.

The site that holds the domain name doesn't offer transfers. So, the username and password were given to me for the name. I have logged in and tried to change all the information. If I known it was going to be like this I probably wouldn't have bought the name.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/12325-need-some-help-register-name.html

I cannot change the registrant name only the owner name.
I wrote the owner of the domain site to ask some questions about this. Saying I bought the site and I want my name on it. They said you cannot change the registrant name only the owner name. So, I changed what I could and now when I go to accesswhois the other person's name is still their along with mine. Is this allowed? I told the owner that other domain names I have bought I have never had this problem and they said you can't do it. Need some opinions please of where I stand.

Also, now it won't let me change my dns info. so back to writing this person again for the third time. That is another story I guess.

I will take any rules or opinions you guys have.

Thanks,
Kathy

Your best bet would be to transfer the domain to a registrar that lets you manage the domain. Try enom if you have a cheap reseller account ($8.95 acounts can be had for free), or you can try namecheap.

Transfer should take about a week or so. Once transferred, you can change anything you want about the domain.

Hi Kathy,

Could you tell us the registrar and the TLD ( do not include the actual domain name ).

It can really vary between services / registrars etc.

Normally you should be able to alter the Name Server, but it does really depend on the actual contract that was agreed to.

These days we are used to having easy to use interfaces that will allow you to do most modifications, however people do forget that it is not actually anything that is automatically provided.

Basically if you have bought the domain then you should have authority to manage the domain, but it is still up to the registrar as to what they want to charge for.

One of the problems I have noticed emerging in the last few years is that it is easy to set yourself up as a ' business ' ... IE be able to trade, even though they are not registered as a business ( or sole trader ) and do not actually abide by any laws that real businesses have to abide by.

Don't let me panic you, it is probably just a bit of mis-understanding and can be sorted out with a polite e-mail to the seller.

Let me know a bit more detail ( by PM if you prefer ) and I will check into it.

All the best.

Richard

You can only transfer if name registered for 60 or more days - else registry will deny the transfer. If more than 60 days - just run - you should not stay with registrar that dissalows you to manage your names

sorry to hear your case, kathy..thats the problem sometimes when you buy on the net, including forums...you are not sure who you are deaaling with...except if you have been part of a community for sometime...even so with big $$$..its risky...anywhere as to your
case i would really like to know WHICH registrar it is...hopefully i do not have to deal with them..

anybody KNOW of the reason WHY the data CANNOT be changed or allowed to do so??.....whats the benifit of the "registrar" taking this tough stand?? any gain? or all lossess?

Hello again,

Well I got an email from the owner of the domain place again this morning. It said:

Quote:
Hello again
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=12325

We now have the ability to transfer registrant in our admin section. Please tell me the domain and the name you want it to be listed under and i will do this now for you. You can edit the rest of the information
I think my questions to them seem to help wondering why I couldn't change the registrant info. and saying every other domain name I have bought I can change the info and basically anything I want.

For the other info. it is a .com name. It is not 60 days old yet so I can't transfer or I would. It was really cheap, but that is not the point. The registrant name was the girls name that owned it before me. She has no idea and really doesn't care what I do with it. She just bought it to use for her own portal pages or something and now doesn't need it.

The problem was with these domain people their was no agreement or contract on their page so I had no idea what I was getting into. They have no rules, terms, faq's or anything.

It was a company a couple days ago I said accepted e-gold or paypal to buy domain names but i had never used them (i just saw them advetising). Trust me I will not use them ever in the future.

Thanks for all your information and help. I am going to write the domain place back now and see where I get.

Kathy
