Selling a domain on eBay without the use of Paypal.

I would like to sell a domain on eBay without the Paypal option, chiefly because I知 a little alarmed by the stories of their canceling accounts do to questionable material (no this domain is not very racy domain, I知 just a tad concerned), so, what are my options?

I知 a true newbie to eBay-having only sold a couple of times and really have little time to do the necessary leg work to find out from eBay directly. Can anyone with a little experience help me please?

Storm Pay Option

I like Storm Pay a lot better. Ebay's Domain Sales suck though. I noticed the missing kids stuff in your signature want to buy some premium names like:

I checked out 2Checkout.com and with $ 122,967,105.21 in sales at this time it痴 obvious that they are a quality alternative but I知 really only interested in a one-time alternative to Paypal and at a fee of $49 for signup I don稚 think it would be in my best interest to use this service at this time.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Any other suggestions?

Hi Kim...

I sell on eBay a lot. A really good alternative to accepting paypal is accepting a money order. Not a check, as you'll need to wait for it to clear. A money order is as good a getting cash through the mail. Make sure and mention in your auction that payment is expected within 7 days of auction close. That way they don't sit on the payment forever.

Good Luck-
Jennifer

Money order terms are becomming less favorable to sellers, I feel the need to point out. (Basically they too can be not honored if the sender turns out to be a fake)
Still say that you'll wait 15 business days to clear (Sounds short, but is really almost a full month from the time they got the money order typically) to make sure all is well.

However, generally, if it is shipped abroad, it is more likely to get lost, and more likely to take a long time to get to you.....

Keep in mind, that Money order has a BIG disadvantage for buyers, as once send the money is gone. You will likely get less sales.
If name has midXXX value then Escrow is a nice option.
At lower sales prices PayPal is the option, that protects both sides.

I myself do not have many international sales on ebay. But I would try escrow.com and moneybookers.com!

I don't think there should be anything wrong with paypal, but if you are concerned just don't use it

Hi Slaughterbeck,

I have the same issues as you do when it comes to using Paypal on Ebay, but only if you plan to make a significant amount of money on whatever you sell. Let's say, $800 and up as significant.
I have sold on Ebay, (not domains) for up to about $100 and never had any trouble with Paypal, but I have heard the horror stories as well.
Actually my friend sold some Bristol Race season tickets for over $1000 on eBay and used Paypal. Immediatley Paypal froze his account and put it under review, just because his account wasn't used to having that much money in it.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=109110
So after a couple of weeks, he finally got it straightened out. But it was a real pain to him and the customer to say the least.
Also, if someone pays using a credit card through paypal and you go ahead and transfer the name and then later they reverse the charge on the CC, then you owe Paypal the amount of the sale, or so I have heard. Plus you've already push your domain over.
I would just say be careful. Using the money order option doesn't sound that bad to me, especially if they are serious about buying your domain to start with. They'll understand.

From bidpay.com:

2. What is the relationship between BidPay and Western Unionョ?
BidPay and Western Union operate as subsidiaries of First Data Corporation. The money orders purchased through BidPay have always been Western Union branded.

There have been a ton of western union/bidpay scams on ebay. I would be more worried about a scam than paypal freezing my account for a couple of weeks.

I wouldn't go on hearsay. I've used paypal for almost a decade without any problems at all. If you're concerned about getting your account cancelled, you might want to look into bidpay and stormpay.

I agree with the statements about using an service like Sedo if the value is high enough to warrant the extra expense.
BTW: western union offers little security for the buyer

Good luck on your ebay sale! Report back and let us know how it's going.
What is your criteria for an ebay sale?
