registering hundreds of domains ?

I searched in forums but I couldn't find the right answer , what is the main point in registering hundreds of domains ?

Expired domains with traffic are really good for parking but registering hundreds of domains is not the same way ( I think

) .

Let me guess ; they register hundreds of domains and redirect them to their high page ranked , well indexed web sites. After google indexes these new domains with that site , they are parking these domains in parking programs.

Can it be possible ?
Or is it a wrong guess ?
I think , I can't see the picture well.

Please fill in the blanks of my picture.

Bonus question : Is it legal to create a web site in one week , then submit it search engines and finally park in parking programs ; but I have one important point here : Is it legal to do this again and again with different domains and 10 times in a month ? Will it be a problem for parking company ?

You can use them as doorway pages to another site.
Lets say you have 10 domains which have 10,000 pages highly optimizated.
Even if you get 1 visitor a month on each page. Thats 100,000 visitors to your main site. You can also integrate adsense programs into them.

it means minimum 3000 bucks in a day , and again 3000 bucks in one year.
If they give 3000 , I am sure that they earn back minimum 3000.

I want to learn the secret of big players. Maybe some clues...

do you mean that they create spam web sites , submit search engines etc. and then use the visitor portfoilo for something else ?

Most registrars give large volume discounts. His 500 domains were at 1.25 each.

By SEO purposes I mean that he was using the domains as doorways to gain traffic. Also the doimains were probably hyphenated, knowing him, he probably was going after keyword rich domains.
