| Since "tirar" is the unconugated verb "to throw" (-or- to cast, to fling, to shoot, to pitch, to push, etc.) it has meaning as a verb. "Tira" would be the conjugated form of he/she/it throws. For example: "tira la pelota" means throw the ball. There are many other uses for the verb.
As a noun, the word "tira" means "detective" in certain parts of South America. It can also mean "strip" in certain instances, like film strip (tira proyectable) or comic strip (tiras comicas). And it also can be used to describe a noun such as "the push" (el tira) - or anything else related to the verbal use.
