offer on sedo. what should i do?

Hi everyone,

i checked sedo this morning, and someone placed a bid of $200 on dublinfinancial(.)com. What do you think i should do? I hand regged this name a year or 2 ago, and $200 is not a bad price. pls advise,because i'm not sure what i should do, and i want to make the right decision. thanks in advance.

Well in my opinion counter with the double price or more and see what they do with that number if you are not satisfied with the price..

If you are then counter with a little bit higher offer.. The problem is that you dont know with whom you are dealingon the other.. If it is a company you could even counter with a low $xxxx offer and they might take it.. But then you risk losing a deal..

All in all it is your desicion, if you feel the price is right take it, but the first offer is never the final one so i would counter with a slightly higher offer and then see how they react..

thanks for your advise, i appreciate it. My first thought is just to counter with at least double the initial bid, but then...i don't want to lose it. lol.sedo bidding....its quite a skill..

How bad do you need the money? If 200-400 would really help you out right now then counter small, accept or send to auction. However, I think with this kind of name and offer that you are looking at a potential end user that may be ready to dish out $xxxx. Personally, I would make a counter offer approx 6-8x the original offer. In the past, offers larger than the minimum on sedo have indicated to me a more serious buyer. I have turned low $xxx offers on sedo into $xxxx sales by countering in that price range. Have you had any other offers on that name in the past? It's a solid domain, I wouldn't feel bad about losing a $200 offer on it if you did counter and nothing happened.. Just my $.02 - good luck

Solid advice.......I agree that most offers at sedo above min bid are made by serious buyers. I would definately counter in the low $xxxx range and see how it goes.

I'll answer your questions as you asked
1) I don't need the money too badly, BUT, as a domainer, i want sales, and haven't had a solid one in a few years.

2)i agree we could be dealing with an end user, and its a financial name, and a .com, so i have good reason to up with a solid counter offer.

3)No, i've not had any counter offers on this name in the past. THe name is almost a year old.

Thanks for your expert advice. I'm going to counter offer with a at least 4X the bid. i'll give feedback if there's a response to that, hopefully a good one

So, your domain was actually created on 8/23/06 according to domaintools. Almost three years old. I would go ahead and renew that baby after you send your counter offer. A keen buyer may even notice, it takes any doubt that you are unorganized and may even let this one drop (like so many quality names are these days).

Good luck with your counter offer! Don't get discouraged if nothing happens, and also don't be surprised if it gets accepted on the same day. Along with DublinMarket, I think you have a great pair of geo+keyword .coms.

Also good advice IMO. You'll never sell one for mid-high $xxxx or beyond without demanding that price for your domains.

ha ha. i checked it on domaintools just now, and you know, it says it was created on 2006, but i know i didn't register that name in 2006. I think the registration date is actually their "updated" date. And yes,i hope to sell dublinmarket.com sometime too.

Thanks for the advice. I counter offered with $800.my logic is that yes, i probably should go all out, but i;m not a brave one in that way, and if they accept $800, i know i;'ve sold the name for a fair price relative to its age and value.

I'd say $800 for that domain to an end user is a snip.I'd have asked $4000 and took it from there.Starting at $800 you have no room to manouver with.Just my opinion.

THanks for the input Shane Mac. Well if its a "snip", i hope they simply accept that price and get this negotiation going. You might be correct though that i should've started higher, but, my only issue is selling for a price i'm not satisfied with, and i'm satisfied with $800.

THe buyer seems unresponsive.... I reduced my offer to $550 before my initial offer of $800 expired, and he didn't respond or counter offer. The counter offer of $550 has expired, and i just counter offered with $300, and if that counter expires, i'll cancel the whole negotiation..

Don't get too frustrated. At this point I don't see that member buying from you. Guess he wasn't an end user... Or if he is, he has you right where he wants you.

If nothing goes thru, you *may want to edit some content from this thread in case another potential buyer decides to do some research on the domain. I still think it's a strong enough domain to demand a higher price for, but that doesn't put money in your pocket today..
