Logo Contest: $100 reward

So, I got some advice that offering a reward would get a better response. Here is what I'm looking for:

A logo for my company, "Flux Stables." We do poker staking, which pretty much means that we loan people money and split profits with them. We are sort of like a mutual fund. Our players are now as "horses," thus the reason we are refereed to as a stable. The Flux part is a play on words. Anyway, if you have questions, ask them in this thread.

For later (or maybe now)

A website that tracks all of our players (aka "horses") and the information. The website would have a forum, admin log-in, player log-in, a sweet interface, flash, etc. I know nothing about website design, but it's probably a pretty substantial project.

The contest will end July 1.

I know I'm new, but I already sent a guy $20 just for giving me some basic info on the forum. He said he would give me positive feedback, but who knows.

Feel free to ask questions. I want something that is really original, but also simple.

Anyway, the winner of the contest has first dibs on making the website.

Well, I'm trying to be open-minded with the logo, since I'm sure you guys are more creative than i am and I don't want to limit people's minds.

That being said, something with horses probably won't win. Anything with too much poker, probably won't win. A hint of something poker related is much better than the logo being a straight flush or something like that.

sharkstaking.com is a website that does what we do. I wouldn't say they have a great logo, but you can get the idea.

I have checked the website you talked about. I can install something similar for you with an included forum, newsletter, banner system, feeds etc. But I don´t create logos.I´m not a designer. PM if you are interested. In my sig you will see some sites created with this CMS.

Thanks. I'm hoping to find a person that does everything. If not, I'll definitely consider your offer. Like I said, the website will be pretty involved, dealing with tracking a bunch of data - it ill be more than just a simple "design." I'm willing to pay for quality, but need to find the right person.

Wow. Thanks guys. A few thoughts:

Zakary: I like yours, but it's a little too simple.

Bob M: Really cool. It's a little too hard to read. I love the blue/purple/white (4th one down) as far as colors.

Overall Comments:

1. I would really love some sort of "logo" that isn't just words. If you look at these guys, you can see that they have a red shark. A logo that incorporates "flux" and "poker," yet is creative, not cliche, and simple might be great, although, as I mentioned, I don't want to start limiting people's ideas already. 2. In some ways the "Flux" is the more important word. I'm not sure if that changes things at all.

Here is what the dictionary says about flux - thought this might spark an idea or two.

flux
–noun
1. a flowing or flow.
2. the flowing in of the tide.
3.continuous change, passage, or movement: His political views are in a state of flux.

Remember, we do Poker staking

I would never rule out the idea of using a "stake' (the thing with a point that goes into the ground) as part of the logo/imagery.

1. a stick or post pointed at one end for driving into the ground as a boundary mark, part of a fence, support for a plant, etc.

And, of course, poker

Think chips, cards, money, etc. If the logo/imagery has to do with poker, it's going to have to be abstract. As I mentioned above, I don't want a 5-card poker hand as our logo.

Waardi, I like your stuff. Not a big fan of orange and green. The poker chip is the right idea, although still very basic and cliche to some extent. The dice isn't really what we are looking for.

The more i think about it, the more I would like a distinct logo that is independent of words, but works well nicely with words. think about the Celtics logo for example - it is a 4 leaf clover. At the same time, it works with the text. If what I said doesn't make any sense, I'll elaborate.

Images to consider

1. poker (in an abstract sense)
2. Stakes (objects that go into the ground and are sharp)
3. Stable (as a horse stable)
4. Stable (as in "not moving around"

5. Flux (the opp. of stable, like water or a river that is always moving)

What about a stake being driven into a river or water making it move?

maybe just water moving?

What about the play on words between stable and flux?

Think about things that are stable - rocks, for example.

That is definitely getting the idea. I would love to see some different colors, maybe black and blue?, but that's definitely on the right track creativity wise.

What about a stake or stakes as part of a fence? I don't know, just thinking.
