I need a logo for a website I've been working on. I've been at it for the past year and just using something I cooked up for temporary use but it's time I get cracking and get a decent logo I can use for my marketing/media kits and stuff.
I need some scalable without loss of quality. Something that can be rendered in multicolor or single color for use in marketing materials like stickers and such.
I'll be closing the contest on January 15th and selecting a winner. Please post entries in the thread so I can suggest provide public feedback to steer designers in the right direction.
Thanks and looking forward to seeing what's out there. It's been about a year since I've done a design contest here so I'm looking forward to seeing new talent.
Wow...guess I'm subscribed to my own thread but didn't have email notification on. lol
I'll reply to all at once.
First as to what I'm running it's a highly modified version of an old phpfox version. I've been playing with their newer versions but so far it's new releases constantly and bad stability so I've stuck with 1.1
My current logo is okay I guess, but I suppose I always feel better when I pay someone to do something...it's dumb but it always seems to bring out a few people that can do better than me.
To clarify, I'm not looking for a header design. I have the site set up so the image in my header is randomly loaded so the logo will have to be something that will work on top of any image. It's crudely coded right now but in my new design I'll be using openads to load a new header background on each page reload so I can link the header to various site happenings. At that point the logo will probably be repositioned above the main image rather than transposed on top of it.
And lastly, I SHOULD have made this clear but I was in a rush to get out the door and off to work...DFW is indeed short for Dallas - Fort Worth.
Oh, and thanks for moving the thread to the proper section. I guess I missed it...I looked for the contests area. My bad.
The size is sort've up in the air since it may not rest in the same position it is currently. This is why it needs to be scalable. Something that can be read clearly when it is about the same as the one used for the namepros forum logo would be ideal. It's placement currently allows for it to be fairly large but the new design I'm playing with will likely land the logo in a more constrictive spot.
My Tryout. I tried to go with the Site Colours, and the Site Kinda Reminded me of Army Colours, So that is why I used the Rank Graphic, and the Text 'DFW'. The Image is 100% Scalable, I will just be needing to remove the Shadow for that.
First I'd like to say thanks to everyone who has participated thus far. Keep them coming. Also, this is a .com and I want people that see the name on stickers, shirts, etc to see it and automatically catalog this into their brain as a website to visit. So far nobody has placed .com into their designs so anyone looking at it wouldn't have a clue what dfwmetrospace is. It's my fault for not being specific about that point. I guess I assumed people would view the site to understand the concept and would see the current temporary logo and follow suit. So...my bad for making assumptions. I know I should've been more clear.
I like the simplicity and general look this one is going for. My only issues are that some people may not quite get the dfw part and I'm wondering how it would look alone. It looks slick against the gradient background but not sure about general usage. So far this one is one of my faves though.
This one is definitely slick but perhaps it has a little too much going on. As I mentioned before marketing materials have to be kept in mind. When I'm cutting thousands of stickers on my plotter for giveaways I'm not going to be cutting more than one color of vinyl. Same for shirts...I can't afford to have multiple screen colors done. So for this one less is more. It doesn't have to be one color but shadows and gradients are probably not needed for the basic design. I can always embellish when needed for certain applications. Thanks for your entry!
Nice entry. I don't think the rank logo will work. Here in the US I think most people think of olive drab or camo when they think army. I actually used the same or similar font you used in MetroSpace when I was playing around myself. II'm not sure the mix of the fonts flows well though. Please don't pay too much attention to the current site colors/theme since I'm developing a new version and it may or may not even have the same color scheme. Hell, if someone cranks out a logo that knocks my socks off I may theme around it.
I'll just throw some keywords phrases out there to get people's thoughts going: Dallas, Texas, urban, professional, social networking, chatting, blogging...

Considering the last statements I've tried another one. I've tried to modify the first logo, but i am not satisfied with results. Tomorrow will play with it again

Definitely a solid entry. The skyline works. It's actually similar to my current t-shirt design except mine is too grungy for a logo.
It's better but not sure it's in the direction I want to go in. I'm not sure if it's just too much going on or what. Ultimately I'll have other people helping me choose but personally I'm not sure I'm feeling the concept.
Ultimately I'm swimming in the same sea as Myspace, Friendster, hi5, facebook, etc. I need have something easily recognizable as my own logo yet not straying too far from the slick and simplistic logos of such sites. I don't think this design in particular sticks in my mind.
if you look at Pam's design...something almost seems familiar about it. Within moments my girlfriend pointed out it reminded her of abc. Sometimes having something that feels familiar can be a good thing. Also her design (while I am not feeling color to be important at this point) utilized the colors of the Texas state flag and a star (Texas is the lone star state). All of these things were not mentioned by myself but rather were incorporated creatively by her and this is why so far it's my favorite entry.
Anyway, it's not over until it's over. So far nobody from any of my previous contests have reared their heads and I still hope to see more talent emerge. Keep em coming and again thanks to those that are throwing their skills into the fray.
