.CO and .CM Launches

Just trying to find some information and I can't seem to find what I am looking for. Hoping you guys can help me.

For the .co and .cm launches, were there any controversies and difficulties in getting to the general launch stage because of the fact that it is too confusingly similar to the .com extension?

If anybody could point me into the right direction, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Those are the ISO country codes. It's not like they picked them

Yes I understand that. However, what I am curious about is whether there were any issues when the ccTLDs opened up registration to the general public and marketed themselves as a gTLD (despite them not being).

All I can say is look at how .tv, .me, and .md are marketed.
