![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Part of why .co.uk is doing so well, IMHO (I just realized how often I say "IMHO"... I better cut back, IMHO ;-) ), is because .uk isn't available. If it was available... -Allan

![]() | Yes Allan, .in is shorter ... this is why I regged some .in (20+) But .co.in is already known by indian websurfers as THE original Indian ccTLD, the one used by major companies for their Indian presence ... Thousands of developped .co.in websites, just a few examples : www.Google.co.in www.MSN.co.in www.Yahoo.co.in www.Nokia.co.in www.NationalGeographic.co.in www.Epson.co.in www.Orange.co.in www.Zeiss.co.in www.Alstom.co.in www.BnpParibas.co.in www.Colgate.co.in www.Chevrolet.co.in www.ThomasCook.co.in www.Acer.co.in www.Mercedes-Benz.co.in www.Philips.co.in www.Sony.co.in ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=71744 www.Netcore.co.in www.Polaris.co.in www.Sail.co.in www.CentralBankOfIndia.co.in www.SBI.co.in (State Bank of India) Try the .in of these companies... you'll be surprised and you will understand why my .co.in names do get some traffic and why my .in names do not get any ! Now, do what you want ![]() I you want a cool name, reg a .in, I love them. But if you want to target the Indian market ... do not forget that .co.in is already famous. The best idea is maybe to reg your name in both .in and .co.in and to redirect the .in to the well known .co.in Grégoire.

![]() ![]() ![]() | I grabbed some .in, .co.in and (I guess I was the only one) some... .org.ins. And yes, as far as traffic is concerned, co.in works much better and I grabbed them all because of their gooood traffic. BTW my .org.in are getting quite nice traffic, too I think nobody really knows which ext works better and which is easier to resell. I personally think that the Indian registry should not have released .in at all - I guess there is a lot of confusion because of the two major ccTLD s in use. With time, I'm sure only .in survives since it's shorter. The same would happen if .uk were released. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think co.in,at least for now,is the best choice.Take this for example: Today I was looking for generic, brandable, dictionary word .IN's and co.in's and thought "________.in" was an awesome name.(I do not want to reveal the name) I scrolled down at DD24 and saw the .co.in was taken but the .IN was not.I registered the .in version. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=71744 I then checked the WHOIS on the .co.in and it turns out they (a major technology company in Australia,Japan, and India) just registered it *yesterday*,meaning they had the choice of .co.in and .IN and they chose ONLY .co.in.They very easily could have registered both.Says alot about Indian preferences. Not that I don't think .IN is good,it will probably catch on.I got a few of both..but like people have said,co.in is widely accepted already.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Some fantastic thoughts and opinions shared into this thread. Thanks Everyone.. I would also like to know what the Indian people think about this as well and if they were to reg a domain which would it be. I'm glad I got the .co.in domains now

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I can't help but to register flora.co.in (yes, I finally have a flora .ext!), language.co.in & mp3music.co.in. I don't know what're their value now, but they sure look ok for me to develop. Hehehe. Flora.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks equity And I personally choose .co.in over .in because of its reg fees too. Hehehe..Flora.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | .in looks very generic while .co.in looks very Indian. So you may have some chances of selling .in in $$, but .co.in are most likely to be sold in Indian Rupees. Mine are : hackers.in freaks.in null.in - dev.null.in is my blog ![]() flames.in ****ed.in netline.in alert.in gui.in -Pratik |

![]() ![]() | My take: Because of the previous difficulty registering co.in, most Indian companies used .com, .net or other top-level domain names. Relatively speaking, there weren't many co.in names registered. Now, with both the .in and co.in readily and easily available, companies will choose the .in. Will be interesting to see how it pans out in 2 or 3 years time. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I am sure it's whois.co.in And the primary reason why all the major companies had selected .co.in is because .in was only for ISPs in India. bsnl.in has been there for a long time. I am sure things will change. Comapnies like rediff will definately try to attarct more people to use their email by offering @rediff.in domain - which sounds a lot cooler than @rediff.co.in And once some bigshot company like rediff gives .in some publicity - .in will overtake .co.in's popularity in no time. Let's wait for 6 months.. -Pratik |

![]() | I wholeheartedly agree. This reminds me of the Canadian provincial subdomains we have here, name.on.ca is practically worthless, buyers want name.ca Speculators of .co.in should take offers now IMHO because down the road they may have little value. |

![]() ![]() | The big companies did not decide to use co.in - there was no decision as co.in was the only Indian commercial extension. When only bananas are available, one cannot choose a mango. Co.in may have the best recognition now, but that will change soon, I bet. I agree with phptech. Those with offers for co.in names should sell whilst they can.
