i was trying to register a single word: "gold" and found that all the second level ccTLD that i searched have all been taken up. That being the case, it is possible there is a market for such premium words
but as someone here mentioned, it might be better to avoid exotic domains.
Except in these cases:
(1) premium single, generic words that have commercial value
(2) you are targeting that country and intend to develop the name
(3) you just want the name anyway and it is not found in the other extensions...if there is no value to that name, never mind - you will keep it always (and the renewal costs don't matter)
If they aren't excellent keywords or specifically aimed names(like a certain website you have in mind), i would say this extension is not worth your while for the most part. Quite a weak extension in my opinion...

As for the sale value of .am probably not the greatest right now. Me personally, I only own 1 one word .am domain and It's in development. Its the play off the phrase "I am" (eye.am). It's in development right now, but hopefully it will get popular and will boost the entire .am marketplace! I'm doing it for you guys!
My mother made the mistake of giving me a very popular first name, and the only TLD I could get in my first name in is .tc: expensive, restrictive, not valuable, and totally unknown, but I'll be keeping it until I can snag it in a less restrictive TLD. For now it's pointed at my home page (not my domaining site).
So it's up to the owner to decide value, if any.

Reason: Left punctuation out
By the way: I own myself one .tc name, and the least expensive registrar for it is Network Solutions, especially if you renew it for at least five years - registration prices for .tc with most other registrars tend to be much too high.
Another popular option for minor TLDs is .gs - South Georgia - since there are no permanent residents there, except for the manager of the local museum (day-visitors from cruise trips from time to time...) and a few British soldiers, I find it a pleasant choice: no competition with locals for domain names!
Although I own already my family name in .info, I couldn't resist buying it in .tc and .gs too, just in case I needed something else, and for the fun of it. But I admit there is little (if any) market value in such TLDs. I see them rather as a good substitute for personal domains, when other extensions are already taken.
