Last auction's results seem to have disappeared. Some will make it onto the dnjournal weekly sales report though.

From that list if I could have one domain that is not already mine, (five of the ones on the list are mine) I would go for Women.ca. Will it meet the reserve though?

Dot ca coming to Godaddy!

The Canadian domainers among us have long been surprised Godaddy, the largest registrar in the world, doesn't offer registration of domains in .ca, Canada's country code TLD, while peddling exotic TLDs of small islands like .tc, .vg, and .gs. I thought Canada was the US' closest neighbour and trading partner?
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=491396

This is about to change!

Godaddy has announced that they have become an accredited .ca registrar and will offer .ca registrations soon!

The press release - http://www.marketwatch.com/news/stor...A91}&dist=hppr

Inevitably, this will lead to some more awareness of the .ca TLD, when Godaddy, the largest registrar in the world in offering it! I'm sure they'll try to upsell .cas to their Canadian customers...

It's a good thing for any of you who are holding on to .ca domains as an investment. I know .ca is already doing great in terms of recognition by Canadians as "their own TLD" but this move by Godaddy will make .ca even more accepted as an alternative to .COM amongst Canadian end users who are still leery to try a .CA domain.

I'd love to know if more people ask about your .ca domains when Godaddy introduces the extension on their website.

Nice find, I hadn't heard anything about this...
I guess I'd better scoop up what's on my list

If the cost is higher than the current .ca registrars,
I'll stay where I am! As much as I like Godaddy.

mis_chiff, I'm not surprised you were one of the first people to reply to this thread. You're like a .CA spokesperson on here.

Don't feel obligated to transfer to Godaddy. Where price and service is the best is where my domains go And it's not bad to support local registrars rather than having more of your money fall into Godaddy's coffers... Only thing I can think of is that it might make transferring ownership a bit easier and comfortable when someone who uses GD for his/her other domains come knocking to buy your .ca domain.

i agree. they've been offering some obscure top level domains, but not .ca. cmon, show the neighbours to the north some love (or to the east if you're in alaska). i'm hoping the prices will be competitive too, since godaddy is one of the cheaper registrars out there.

If you own a .ca domain name and you say that you care about the extension, you need to check this out!

I was just clicking around the CIRA site and I noticed that you can be a "CIRA Member" as long you have a .ca domain. You get some voting privileges when decisions regarding the extension are made and you get to elect the CIRA Board of Directors.

http://www.cira.ca/en/membership/about.html

I'm going to go a little off the topic of .ca here but it seems that the .ca domain registry is doing something RIGHT and is being a champion here. TLDs are a public resource not to be monopolized by a company or an organization. Registrants SHOULD have the chance to give input on and VOTE on what should happen with the domain extension that they're a part of.

this is how each gTLD and ccTLD needs to be run, and for that matter ICANN too... Verisign is operating .com and .net like a dictatorship.

That will be a decision made at the registry level (http://cira.ca/) not the registrar, Godaddy. There are no plans at present to open the namespace up to people who don't have a Canadian presence...
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=491396

It could happen in the future, but right now, there's nothing pointing to that.

No - the presence requirements are set by CIRA not godaddy.

I'm thinking Adam had something to do with this...

Still they will be VERY hard pressed to compete against Namespro or Sibername. There is no comparing the fanatical customer support of Namespro vs GoDaddy - anyone who has dealt with godaddy's customer support knows what I'm talking about...

I do wonder if they will be offering TBR services though.

Too bad as that would mean our .ca domains would shoot up in value if the rest of the world could buy them.

Values have been rising slowly and steadily without it - even now when the rest of the domain market is slumping .ca keeps seeing great sales.

And don't think those not really meeting the presence requirements are not already buying - because they are. I and others who play the tbr now have some of their domains though...

Being that they are already known for low prices it wouldn't surprise me any to see them try to undercut the bulk of .ca registrars - at least initially to try to gain some market share and recognition. They could also go the premium route and price high, but it's not like them, and Canadians are a cheap lot...

I doubt GoDaddy can bring lower .ca price to the market as the current .ca price is already less than US$9.95 which is lower than GoDaddy's regular price for any domain extension.

wow.. I wonder if this will create a surge in .ca regs?
This could also lead to alterations in CIRA,S requirements.
Either way this looks good for current .ca portfolios
