.to names and seo?

Hi guys, Im been reading these sites for a while and finally signed up today

I have a small collection of names, about 1000, that Ive been building over the years. A portion of this collection are .to names (Tonga, from tonic.to). I'd like to develop these but was curios if the .to extension is going to give me a bad disadvantage in SEO? Obviously I'm not targeting the inhabitants of Tonga

Anyone had experience with this? I've ready that a ccTLD will not get as good results but I'm curious how bad google and others will punish these names...

Thanks!

Brady

Goog has started giving some weightage to ccTLDs for local search results, I also thought the converse was true for gTLDs but research shows otherwise.

I don't see any harm developing a site on .to seo wise.

Thats why I like ccTLDs

Well as far as the content on the page is general and you are not using geo targeting meta tags then you are fine

You can develop them.

Thanks for the input, guys. I was also curious if a specific cctld might be "punished" somehow... I guess mostly because Ive noticed a lot of the .to names tend to be used for non-mainstream, perhaps noncredible purposes (hacking websites, torrents etc). for example, perhaps goog could consider a .to name to have a higher likelyhood of being a phishing site etc. and thus rate all .to's lower? Just throwing around ideas.. The research Ive done shows that goog will definintely index the names, but I've never seen one place well in ranking...

anyway, im considering a big project using these so just trying to figure out as much as i can before committing to it

You might not have seen good rankings for that TLD as no one would have been serious about it. If you are serious then you can prove it.
