What Makes a .ca Worth it?

Of course there are tons of .ca domains available, where the same .com is taken. I've read that .ca's are similar to .net's in that they are worth ~1/10th as much. But it seems to me if that was really the case, some other .ca's would be taken too.

So my question is, what extra value do you look for in a .ca domain, in order for it to be worth it?

- Top Quality Domain ($600k Jobs.ca) (Obviously)
- Local Keyword?
- Exactly Matches Search Queries?
- What else?

Thanks!

I don't know where you heard about the comparison to .net
Do you have a link?
I don't agree.

The .ca market is on an upswing, but because of the restrictions,
it will always play a factor in the big money!
But bottom line, if the .com is gone... then .ca is my choice
before .net!

Sorry, I can't remember where I read that. (Also from what I see, I don't think a pure mathematical approach is worth much for .com / .ca appraisals.

So what do you look for in a worthy .ca? (Help a noob out lol)

Personally, I try to stay with the purpose
of development. But sometimes if the domain
is gone in every TLD and ccTLD except .ca, then
I'll take it anyway.

If I had a bucket of cash I'd reg as many as I could.
I missed out on the LLL and NNN buyout.
I guess I kept my list too long thinking they wouldn't
sell out - boy was I wrong !

With over one million registrations to date, saying, "there are tons of .ca domains available," is rather subjective. There are no premium domains available for registration, and there are few mid-level registrations available; so that leaves just the margins.

The savvy new buyer to .ca should concentrate on aftermarket purchases. Don't get carried away chasing domains in the tbr auctions as the price always seems to get inflated for anything decent.

There are tons of nicely priced .ca domains available on domain forums in the $50-1000 range. You would do better in the long run imo buying these domains rather than trying your hand at fresh registrations.

Look for domains that have traffic, or are short in length, are common single words, meaningful coupled words/phrases etc.
