.US .us numbers...what's up with the 800s?

have you noticed that you can't reg any .us's that are 3 numbers and in the 800's? i.e. 830.us is an invalid domain name..
what the heck?

All 3 letter and 3 number domains went a while ago.

There are people selling them on avarious sites. But there not cheap.

no, that's not what i'm saying. i'm saying that NO ONE ha sthe 800's in numbers for .us's, nor can anyone reg them. godaddy told me they are invalid domains..
at least, that's my conclusion for tonight, i am really sleepy...

I believe they are reserved for future telecom use (toll-free numbers). Its possible that a handful (like 830.us) slipped thru the cracks ...

Awhile ago when I tried to register those 800 #s I noticed that also. Did some research and that is what I found out also Armstrong.

They are reserved. You will find similar reservations with other extensions also.

Do these restrictions apply only to the .US domains? I was wondering because I see many zip code combinations, etc. available in the .com domains.

It is. The list can be downloaded and is over a 1Mb zipped text list available from link link in my post. It contains just about every city, county, state, and town name, indian reservation, congressional committee and member, etc. (some of the cities were released last January). It also has hundreds of 3 to 5 letter domains that are acronyms for various us agencies most of whom already have domains in the .gov and .edu TLDs.

I just pulled some interesting ones from the list above. I thought the fu** the D.O.C. domains were downright funny.

Most every congressman was restricted at the time the list was made as well.
