Help! HELP!! Can I not register a .eu domain if I do not have a Europe addy?

I live in the US but want to register a .eu domain name. I tried to do it through godaddy but it said my information was wrong and I had to have a europe address. What should I do? Can I just change my address to a made up one in Europe or could this cause problems in the future? Any thoughts would be a great help.

Damn
I found a great name that is not taken either. So any name that has a country extension can not be registered by anyone with an address outside of that country?

thanks

It depends on the rules of the extension's registrar. The majority of country specific domains (like .cc, .ws, .....) can be registered by everybody. .eu domains however can only be registered by citizens of the European Union (not even by Swiss as Switzerland isnt part of the EU).

No, the owner has to be from the EU.

You could try making a European "friend" or someone willing to let you use their details in return for a fee.

And on the subject of extensions and restrictions - Dotster have a list here.
