.US Heating Up

For those of you who haven't checked this article out at Domain Name Journal-

http://www.dnjournal.com/articles/cc...wth-backup.htm

The article is written by a Sedo Key Acct Manager.

Since the beginning of 2006, I have received 2 seperate, direct inquiries regarding my 3LLL.US domains. Relative to .com, .net, .org and .info, .Us 3LL are currently a bargain, as ar 3ll.biz names, IMHO.
As .us emerges, just think of all of the US businesses that will be vying for a nice, short web address to enhance their corporate identity.

Although not yet "hot", I certainly see the .us market warming up.

My personal choice is .US for simple reason ... high retail value to prospect business and entrepreneurs

Really great article...

But does .US have any other value to other individuals rather then for US businesses?

.US has broad appeal, not just for US-based businesses. Regarding which domain is best, .info or .US, both are very good and pretty comparable. Some keywords go a bit better with one extension over the other.

Actually all of the newer, major-tld's fill a niche and will continue to grow as the world makes greater use of the net.

I agree. For commercial development potential and resale to businesses .us has it over .info, but i continue to like the intuitiveness of .info and what better extention could there be for guides, directories, instrucion manuals, vacation portals, rate comparisons and other enterprises that gather and deciminate information, than .info? .US, will appeal to US businesss and non-US companies doing business in the US who wish to provide their US division w/ a local identity, (ie Volvo.us or FrenchAir.US), and as a means of emphasizing their presence in the market and identifying w/ the American consumer.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/cctld-discussion/166584-us-heating-up.html

There have been 2 or 3 prior instances where .us seemed to be on the verge of taking off, only to lose steam. This time around, there's a differnt feel to the buzz, because the prognostications are coming from several diverse sources. But, even if this is another false start, it will only be temporary and todays buzz can be viewed as a precursor of what will, inevitably, be taking place.

I have nothing to add at the moment, but... I wanted to come into the thread and bask in the warm glow of .US love. This is better than a good suntan, and it doesn't cause skin cancer.

LOL Kim.

Actually, it appears to be a developed site for a 'modern' furniture company.

www.spf.us

I had not seen this one before. Pretty cool.

I figure if .de could be a big extension, how can't .us be even bigger? .us is probably my favorite underdog extention.

Local relevance will get increasingly important as the Web grows from its original one size fits all model to targeted locals.

As well as, non-US businesses that wish to identify w/ and target the US consumer, (ie Volvo and Air France), IMO.

Any namespace that is used within the parameters of it's established guidelines and/or it's adapted, normal use, is a viable alternative to an unavailable .com. If the supply of available .com domains met the market demand for them, there would be no need for alternative namespaces because there would be no demand.

The two basic issues concerning non- .com names are:

1) The interpretation and enforcement of the usage guidelines. Because there are a finite number of quality domains, (quality= intuitive keywords w/ built-in traffic, strong development potential, high relevancy to a market), it is inevitable that there will never be an adequate supply of quality domains to meet the demand. The competition over the limited supply results in contention between those who feel that they have had their namespace usurped by profiteers and those who view domain names as an investment oppurtunity in a free, capitalistic market.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=166584

2)The relative value of the non .com namespaces. This issue motivates making value comparisons between various namespaces. This is, also, what makes monitoring and attempting to analyze domain name sales and marketing trends, a worthwhile activity for domain name marketers and investors. That is what this thread and the linked article are addressing.

Either that or the owner of Journal.com can just turn the name over to me so I can redirect it.

They did get the correct link to DNJournal in the next paragraph though.
