Question About GPL/GNU License

(Not sure where to post this question, feel free to move to a better category)

I'm thinking about reviving an open source script that hasn't been updated or supported in over a year. A lot of work went into the script and I was going to do something similar as open source anyway, so I figured it would be easier to start with a working script than try and hire people to do the stuff I can't do for a custom setup that will be made open source anyway.

I'm going to setup a new site with forum, etc.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/business-development/600848-question-about-gpl-gnu-license.html

I was wondering if I can change the name of the script (all GPL/GNU license info will be bundled with the script)

I want to give it a new name and just mention that it is based on the other script.

Anyone know?

This is a common practice in the open source world "Free and open source software may be forked with no prior permission, per the definitions of "free software" ("Freedom 3: The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits") and "open source" ("3. Derived Works: redistribution of modifications must be allowed. (To allow legal sharing and to permit new features or repairs.)")." From Fork (software development) on Wikipedia.
