Social Bookmarking! Ever heard of that? Did your ever came across a site where there is a link at the bottom asking you if you want to bookmark it? If the answer is yes, you should have notice that social bookmarking is becoming a ‘trend’. And people has been bookmarking and sharing their bookmarks at several social bookmarking sites, instead of saving as “favorites” in their computer.

Social bookmarking is about sharing bookmarks with other users online. It works the same way as the “favorites” which is shortcut located at your internet explorer that allows you to save website as your favorites and allow you to easily get back to the site whenever you want to. Social bookmarking site does the same way but went further than that It not only allows you to save your bookmarks online, but also allows you to share your interesting bookmarks to other user online. In addition, it allows you to know more about others’ bookmarks. If you are a marketer, then social bookmarking site could be useful to you. You can gain traffic for free, as you know social bookmarking sites is getting more popular among online users, any links submitted to them could get a huge exposure. However, marketer should not put in too much time and effort into the social bookmarking even if you are tight on marketing budget. Some niches work better then others. If you have a high traffic topic with a lot of general public interest they are very good. If you have a tight niche with a small population of possible users social bookmarking is not going to help.

im into social bookmarking and it will not totally replace the directory of course but it's a good reference point especially if domain owners have to "target" their niche.

social bookmarking is not only a good link building method, it also help getting a new site or page indexed quick. i had lot of sites/pages indexed within less than an hour just by submitting to social bookmarking sites.

I have done alot of reading on social bookmarking and realise that it is a big part of what i need in order to get my new forum off the ground. I have a few submisions to digg.com etc. but want to know, if i submit more than once from my same IP address will they not realise that it is me making the submissions and then block my IP? If this is the case, is their a solution?

But yes, they are great as a tool if you have constantly updated content and alot of people submitting your site to their social bookmarking site of choice.

I use social bookmarking too but theres a lot of other good methods to get get out pages out there. I found great success in article marketing

I always social bookmark when launching a new site to get some quick links. Remember to bookmark good sites besides your own so your profile doesnt look too spammy.

Totally agree. It doesn't take long to do, there are a few free softwares you can use to submit your site to several different ones all at once.
