| Resale Value of Directories
I wanted to mention that recently I have seen several directories sold for x,xxx and one for xx,xxx!
Keeping good records of traffic, payments and profit can be very important to being able to sell your directory.
I wanted to start this thread about ways you can be sure to have a good resale value for your directory.
What are your thoughts?

To be honest, with the distribution of free open source directory scripts, everybody and their brother seems to have been setting these sites up. If there's still money to be made in them, I'd be very surprised.
The old, established sites may be worth selling, but anyone looking at starting a new one either has to find a niche or have a larger innovative concept that's unique to their site only. | |

| Yeah I believe that free php directory script just ruined the SEO value of directories too.

Well i have some directories started months back like the Worlds BIGGEST Directory and i would say make the directory SEO friendly.
I used the script given by dvdual 
Its a gr8 script and i have paid around 300$ till date in promoting this directory.
Everything depends on the amount on work you do on your directory.
I hope i also get a Big price for my dir.  | |

| We have had directories using PHPLD, Biz Directory script and some other scripts including CPLinks. Sold between low to high $xxx. I am always buying and always selling. | |

| I agree, it is hard to sell directories. I have a directory that I make an average of $100 a month with minimal effort that I can't sell for $xxxx.
The internet seems to be saturated with them, which I can't really figure out because they are a lot of work to run, which is why I am trying to unload mine. | |

| in my view,directories takes our time as investment if you have enough time to spend and care to make a high quality directory, you will be in top even if there are 1 milioin in competetion. it all depends on uniqueness and quality of maintainance. | |

| Directories are just in the big 'boom' shall I say. I have seen the interest grow in directories over the last 10 months. I have seen my own directory grow. My directory could sell for $x,xxx if I ever wanted to sell. People are also very interested in the PR of the directory, along with all its categories and sub-cats. I only see the future to be better for directories. Scripts like PHPLD make it even better.  |

· #10 | | New Member | As long as they are managed well they have a lot of value. Search engines spider directories to find quality new sites to add to their index. You can obtain great PR from them when you submit your site to a relevant subcategory. The domain name its self can be worth money due to branding. Most importantly, people use them to find websites. | |
