affiliate trick of the day

consider this my good deed of the day! But i've got a GREAT super trick i use with my affiliate programs.

when signing up with a potential affiliate i do this.

1st, the affiliate user name. I never put my name, my nick name, or a variation of my nick name as an affiliate id or username. Instead, i pick a technical codish type of name.

instead of

username: isis,
I use

username: storefrontcgi , cgi, indexhtm, asp, php4, etc etc etc

I do that so that the person clicking through my link doesn't autmatically see that it's an affiliate link

for example, instead of
www.xxxxxxx.com/isis or
www.xxxxxxx.com/affid=isis

they see
www.xxxxxx.com/asp or
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/affiliate-talk/87602-affiliate-trick-of-the-day.html
wwww.xxxxxx.com/affid=cgi

Clever, I'll give you that. But really, how many surfers are attentive and aware enough to know the difference?

Yes. This is great. I have been using this trick for quite some time now, as well. There are many folks out there that frown upon affiliate salesman and they know how to recognize an affilaite link. Some will still even detect a hidden one like yours, but some will not.

This is an invaluable trick for affilates who sell biz opps or the like. This market is more savvy in the way of detecting aff lionks because they look for them. Most think that if it is an affilaite link it must be a scam while others will ust remove your af ID as they take offense ot the fact that you would make money off thier sale.

What really gets me is these affilate scripts/programs that use "aff=" or afflnk=". Why can't they use something less obvious than that? No one needs to know that there is an affiliate ID in the URL. Just so long as the sales are tracked, there is no reason to display it to the world.

OK, you've tempted me to share my trick, since you guys are so excited about this one Post this code into a page and check your roll over. How does it look? Click it and it will send the user to the encoded page, not the page they see in the status bar.

That depends on your definition of the word "trick". I don't believe this falls under that.

I forgot to mention, it only works in IE.

I wrote to allposters.com in detail concerning my "trick" that I posted here and their response was as follows:
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=87602

"Such a practice does not violate our policy in any way. If you need further assistance, please let me know."

Hope that clears this up.

You are say that you used this method with a paypal link? That seems a little dangerous. You might have to elaboarate a bit.

Just because I share a piece of code to use, doesn't mean you should not also use common sense.

Ahh ok....but the trick itself is still ok...even though it surely can be used for evil purposes. Kinda like domain squatting.

After I read your last post, I got nervous, thinking that you might delete your code, and quickly copy/pasted it and dropped it into my "X-File".

I'm kind of an old dog that got a late start compared to some of the other old dogs, (and, some, not so old-hehe), around here, and I'm not sure how deep I will ever get into code, so I'll rely on you guys and use my smarts , (if I have any ), in other areas, to try to get by on.
