Yes, but that's not the only thing on the site - it's there to support the site content. That way, the site is well indexed and people shop for things after reading about them on the rest of the site.

If all you plan to put out there is a domain and an astore, you probably are wasting your time.

Yes. It's so important that the site is well indexed. However, I highly recommend against using adwords when you’re first starting out. Google Adwords is PPC marketing and is one of the more difficult and costly methods. It is really easy to screw up with it and when you do, you can end up losing quite a bit of money.

Yes I did but not much. You know Amazon gave you 4% on the physical product they sold. Or may be you can sell some higher priced stuffs which you may get more commission.

I must say that my sites make more money from Amazon then from Adsense.. People buy stuff when they see amazon

associate-o-matic is a great store where you can modify anything and everything.. Content first, store second

I'm sure there are people making big bucks with their aSstore program. You just need a little customization and promotion.

I was disappointed initially with amazon. But one of my sites is now witnessing purchases. An average of one purchase per month. I crossed the payment threshold in around 7 months with that name. Some months it makes more than $10. The site is indexed by google and comes first for the product search, but the search volume is very less for this product.

I earn around $100 from Amazon per month. I don't soo much work on these sites so can't except more. To earn from Amazon you need traffic as well as well developed site. If you make few pages and throw bunch of Amazon ads won't work. I have sites which I get over 5000 UVs per month and reasonable money from AdSense but nothing from Amazon (Sites has only one ad unit).

Also there are few sites which I made specifically for Amazon and get around 800-1000 UVs. Those sites get around $50 from Amazon each month.

That's pretty much how it is with ANY affiliate program, including Amazon. Just putting up banners and throwing traffic at the site may get people to click, but it won't get the sales.

However if you write a helpful article about a particular product, then tell people where they can BUY that product, you will make sales and earn commission.

On one of my higher trafficked wordpress sites, I use aStore in a link at the top of each page, and beneath each blog post is a short list of products related to the topic. Most of my amazon affiliate commissions come from the short list. I don't convert very well with the aStore.

This is the plugin I use:

It isn't so much about the affiliate network as it is about the individual merchant and your site...Two people could put up identical ads for the same merchant on their sites, one might convert very well, the other may not make a cent.

Amazon is reputable - they track sales properly and they pay on time. People trust their site and the checkout process is easy, so they WILL buy things there. The percentage of returns will depend on what you sell.

Actually, it's 4% - 15%. It only takes 6 items to get to the 6% bracket - that's not much at all! And just 31 to make it to 6.5%. If you sell "impulse-purchase" items, 7% (111 items) isn't out of reach. They pay 4% on electronics, which is better than certain other big names pay, and 15% on products from Endless (shoes).

I don't personally do a lot with Amazon because it doesn't fit into the business plan for most of my sites, but I do make a little "mad money" from it with the two sites where I promote them: YTD, 412 items sold ($16,430), which amounts to about $1100 so far. Both sites have a page or two with an embedded astore page, mostly individual product links though.
