does cj and linkshare track cookies between different sites on their network? or is each cookie targeted to the site I directed them to? for example, if someone clicks on my link, but doesn't buy. what if the person goes to a different site that uses cj or linkshare and buys something?

do I get paid?

No, the cookies are site/offer specific. Different companies offer different expiry times for the cookies, so you cannot put all in on e cookie. And you are most likely not approved for all programs CJ and linkshare offers.

You mean if you are promoting a product on your site and a visitor clicks your affiliate link but doesn't buy... but then they go to another person's site promoting the same product and click their link and buys?

No you won't... the last referring click gets credit for the sale.

they are smarter than we know .. so the cookies can track anyone they want ..

FYI, there are some exceptions to this. A few merchants follow the entire click trail and will credit part of the sale to a first-click affiliate.

But most don't.
