Is it safe to give your SSN to the adult affiliates like NeonDollars and AWEempire?

Also, for what purpose are they gathering SSN numbers?

Taxes.

If you earn > 600 they have to issue you a 1099 at the end of the year.

Generally safe - they need your ssn or taxid to comply with tax laws.

But of course if they were actually phishers or scammers trying to pass as real merchants or if they had poor security practices, then it wouldn't be safe. I don't do adult sites so I don't personally know them - google them or ask around on adult webmaster forums and see if any red flags turn up.
